Farm This year has seen many accomplishments for the farm: May 2011 Hurlstone cattle were sold at the Ayrshire Dairy Cattle sale in Terang Victoria.(100% on return for stock comparable to 2008) May 2011 Hurlstone cattle participated in the Holstein “On farm” judging competition, placing in a number of classes. September 2011 Hurlstone cattle Ayrshire on farm judging competition . Cattle won a number of ribbons in this event also. Sep. 2011 Hurlstone hosted the 28th Ayrshire State Calf Show show . Hurlstone placed Junior Reserve Champion with Hurlstone Kellie Larissa and we have had inquiries to host The Ayrshire World Congress in 2014. The farm purchased superior Dairy and Sheep Livestock to increase farm profitability . August 2012 we sold 3 Dairy Heifers to China (100% increase on return for stock comparable to 2008) Hurlstone sold a cow, Hurlstone Hollie Solax to a breeder who showed the animal at International Dairy week in Victoria. The animal placed 5th in a very large class. An Ayrshire breeder, Paul Timbs donated an Ayrshire dairy bull calf to the school. The bull’s dam was the top priced Ayrshire in Australia in 2011 and the dam took out Reserve Champion at International Dairy Week. The farm had it’s most successful Embryo Transfer program in 2011 with a 90% strike rate , the heifers are due in april. Sydney Royal 2011 saw a steer donated to Hurlstone take out reserve champion carcase. Sadly we have had a number of staff changes on the farm, while seasonly the later half of the year has been very kind and preparations are well under way for 2012.
