Life in the Freezer! We had a great Stunning Start exploring small world play, books, puzzles and many more things! We also wrote resolutions for the new year – 2015! Our Science this term was all about materials. We investigated what happens when materials are heated and cooled. The one type of jelly was a solid and felt cold and ‘squishy’ while the other type was powdery. When we added hot water (heated it) to both jellies it both turned into a liquid. After it was cooled in the fridge it became a solid again. We also looked at changes in cake mix, bread and chocolate. Another investigation we did was to find out which material was the best insulator. We wanted to know which material would be best to make a pair of mittens to keep us dry and warm in the Polar Regions. We measured the temperature of the water in each cup with a thermometer. We had t omake sure we read the thermometers very carefully. We celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as book characters. The teachers all joined in the fun too! We enjoyed reading with our parents in hall too. Science Week was a lot of fun! We did a lot of different investigations! Boffin Kieran showed us interesting science experiments like making elephant toothpaste and making a mini tornado in a bottle. He showed us how to make rockets which we later launched in the hall. We enjoyed doing chromatography to find out which colours are mixed tomake different colours. We also investigated which type of paper planes would fly the furthest. We tested different designs and different types of paper. Investigating different animal ears! This was our favourite investigation! Chocolate testing! We found out that although their temperatures were very low, they did not have many days when it snowed or rained At the Redbridge Drama Centre we enacted the journey of Robert Falcon Scott to Antarctica then to the South Pole. Our visit to London Zoo was a great ending to our topic. The perfect Fabulous Finish to a fantastic topic1. We had fun balancing like the monkeys do! The highlight of our visit to the zoo was seeing the penguins! The big silver back gorilla looked really scary. The time webt by so quickly! On our way home after an enjoyable day!
