CALL FOR PAPERS Data Mining in Biomedical Informatics and Healthcare (DMBIH) Workshop 2014 In conjunction with IEEE ICDM 2014 Shenzhen China, December 14th, 2014 http://dampa.cdm.depaul.edu/events/DMBIH14/index.html Highlights - Deadline Extension: New submission deadline September 17, 2014 - Keynote: Y.T. Zhang, Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Key Lab for Health Informatics of Chinese Academy of Sciences - Special Issue: Journal of Biomedical Informatics The ICDM 14 Data Mining in Biomedical Informatics and Healthcare workshop aims to provide a forum for data miners, informacists and clinical researchers to share information on their latest investigations in applying data mining techniques to biomedical and healthcare data. The broader context of the workshop comprehends artificial intelligence, information retrieval, machine learning, and natural language processing. Submissions are invited to address the need for developing new methods to mine, summarize and integrate the huge volume and diverse modalities of the structured and unstructured biomedical and healthcare data that can potentially lead to significant advances in the field. Topics of interest include but are not limited to: Clustering text data in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Classifying and clustering temporal data in EMR on the patient level in high dimensional space Topic detection and information extraction in big text clinical data Longitudinal analysis of clinical notes and surveys Statistics and probability in large-scale data mining Methods to perform simulation of population outcomes based on treatment types and identification of the optimal treatment Visualization methods for identification of patients' similarity based on treatment types, and resource allocation (i.e. drugs, hospitalizations) Evidence-based medicine Medical image data mining Computer-aided detection and diagnosis Radiology structured-reporting and data mining HIPAA compliance data mining Data preprocessing and cleansing to deal with noise and missing data in medical data Pharmacogenomics data mining Biological markers detection Biological and clinical data analysis and integration for translational research Computational genetics, genomics and proteomics KEYNOTE SPEAKER Dr. Yuan-Ting Zhang will present "Convergence: from Wearable Cuffless Blood Pressure Measuring Devices to Cardiovascular Health Informatics". Dr. Zhang is currently the Director of Joint Research Center for Biomedical Engineering and Professor of Department of Electronic Engineering at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Hong Kong, China. He serves concurrently the Director of the Key Lab for Health Informatics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (HICAS) at SIAT, Shenzhen, China. He is the first Head of the Division of Biomedical Engineering at CUHK and the founding Director of the CAS-SIAT Institute of Biomedical and Health Engineering. IMPORTANT DATES: September 17, 2014: (Extended) Due date for full workshop papers October 10, 2014: Notification of paper acceptance October 24, 2014: Camera-ready deadline for accepted papers December 14, 2014: Workshop date SUBMISSIONS &PROCEEDINGS Paper submissions will be done through the IEEE ICDM Workshop CyberChair submission system. Papers should be limited to a maximum of *10* pages, and follow the IEEE ICDM format requirements (http://icdm2014.sfu.ca/submission.html).All accepted workshop papers will be published in a formal proceedings by the IEEE Computer Society Press. One paper will be selected for the best paper award, which will be presented at the workshop. Authors of selected papers will be invited to submit extended papers to the special issue "Mining Big Data in Biomedical Informatics and Healthcare" of the Journal of Biomedical Informatics.
