TREGOLLS ACADEMY Summer Camp Friday 26th April 2013 There will be a meeting for all parents and children who are attending this year’s Summer Camp at Porthpean on Thursday 2nd May at 3.20pm in the hall. Mr Watkins, Fowey Class Teacher will be discussing what kit is needed and what activities will be taking place this year. Helford Poets Earlier this year, Helford Class entered the ‘Young Writers’ My First Rhyme’ competition. They each wrote a poem about their senses as part of their Sensational topic last term. Many of the children have achieved the success of having their poem published in a special book called ‘My First Rhyme – The South’, in July. Well done Helford Class! Football Fun A team of year 4, 5 and 6 girls coached my Mr Plechowicz, took part in their first ever football tournament. They had never trained or played together before. Although they did not win any matches, they showed immense character and resolve playing against some very experienced teams. ‘BugClub’ An online reading programme called ‘BugClub’ will be launching this week. Home Learning Links This week I have updated the website to support learning at home; in all areas of the Curriculum. If you click on the children’s tab, follow home learning and as well as Espresso, you will now have access to over a 100 interactive resources. Please remember the impact that you have at home, for a child under 7 a school’s impact is 5%, compared to parent’s impact of 29%. A child from 7 to 11 the impact is 27% at home and 21% at school. Please visit the website to read more on this researchhttp://www.tregolls.cornwall.sch.uk/support-athome/. I have also put access to Key Stage 2 Project ‘W’ on the home learning link. Summer Uniform I have been asked by a number of parents about what colour the girls summer dresses will be. I am in talks with Dr Vann to decide on this and I will let you know as soon as a decision has been made. I thank you for your patience whilst we are trying to resolve this. Chickens Eggs Now that the better weather is here, the school chickens are laying more eggs. These are available to buy from Justine Gray for a donation. All monies go into the upkeep of the chickens and enable the Gardening Club to buy more seeds and equipment. It also teaches the children how enterprise works. Thank you to the parents who have been kindly looking after the chickens during the school holidays. Mayor Visit On Wednesday 24th April, the Mayor of Truro visited the school to present some of the Gardening Club members and Mr Piperithis with gardening and wildlife items. These have kindly been donated by the Truro In Bloom committee who received a grant from the Big Lottery Fund. A big thank you to Mr Piperithis who runs Gardening Club on a voluntary basis along with some other keen parent volunteers. Interactive Newsletter In the coming week I will be canvassing your opinion on having an interactive newsletter. This would reduce cost considerably on paper and printing. For parent’s of children from Penair, it will follow the same format of being sent directly to your e-mail address. However, if you don’t have an e-mail address a copy will be put on the school website and the notice board. Best wishes, Mr. M. Middlemore
