Welcome back! We hope that you all had a nice ½ term break. This week we’ve been settling back into our school routines and the children have really enjoyed learning about Diwali – the festival of lights. We’re also preparing for our very 1st wholeschool assembly., and we’re excited to be going to our school Remembrance service on Monday. Diwali and Poppies! 8-11-13 Robin Class, Reepham Primary School Diwali This is a special celebration for Sikhs and Hindus, and we know that it is widely celebrated in India. Our maths, art and shared writing/investigating this week has been based around Diwali as the children have been so interested in it. * Ask your little ones what they can remember about Diwali… We have looked at some real ones and made clay Diyas, and we have found out lots of facts using books and the internet. Your robin may remember information about fireworks, sweets, presents, cards, dancing sticks, hand art, colourful patterns and the special clothes that people wear. They may also remember our story about Rama and Sita or the goddess Lakshmi. Rememberance Day This is a special day to remember people who have lost their lives fighting for our country. It is important to remember that there are people at work right now who are keeping us safe too! Why wear a poppy? We know that people wear poppies because they grew where soldiers fought for our country almost 100 years ago in World War 1. When is it? We know that it is the same day that World War 1 ended. The 11th day of the 11th month…November!
