What Happens
During Diwali?
Prayers
Actual day begins with people decorating their prayer areas at home. They thank God
for their families and pray for a great new year with health, wealth, and good luck

Visits
They go to people’s houses and give presents
Rangoli
Many families create elaborate designs using coloured rice or sand
Shopping
People will go and buy new clothes
Food
Families will have good meals with lots of sweets being given and
shared
Fireworks
Families put on fireworks displays and children have sparklers
Lamp
Lighting
Families light their houses to celebrate good over evil. Diwali always
takes place when there is no moon.
