If you could pass the advertisement on (Ports EIT Position Descriptions 112012.docx) to other
prospective students (structural with geotech emphasis) who are graduating in May 2015 that would be
great. They can send resumes directly to me or forward to Celina Walker (copied above). We typically
look for candidates who are above average communicators, can demonstrate good mechanical aptitude
(previous work experience, construction, hobbies, etc.) and those who have a solid structural /
geotechnical academic foundation. I have included a few typical project sheets to illustrate why we are
interested in those qualifications. This is the type of work we do on a regular basis. Large loads, soil
structure interaction, non-repetitive engineering.
See http://lowery.tamu.edu/announcements/Moore1.pdf
And, in return, we would be glad to come help with a class presentation to answer the questions of 1) why
do we need to learn calculus? 2) what practical use are these stresses/strains/influence lines/pressure
diagrams, etc.

Thanks! I hope all is well in Aggieland! Gig ‘Em.

Howdy Dr. Lowery!
I hope all is well for you back in Aggieland. I still can’t believe it is going on 11 years since I
graduated. Even after all this time has passed it still feels like I was just in class yesterday! Life
has been good since we last spoke. I’ve gone from being the Assistant Area Engineer in Liberty
to becoming the Area Engineer last July after my previous AE moved up to become a
Director. It has been a great experience with a lot of unique challenges.
I’m hiring a 2nd EIT for the office and wanted to see if you could get the word out to the
graduating seniors. The job duties for the EIT would include developing routine maintenance
contracts, inspecting construction, assisting in plan development, and any additional day to day
duties as they come up. Our office is on US 90 between Houston and Beaumont. It is about 45
min each direction to either city and we are experiencing a lot of growth and development with
Houston expanding to the east and soon we will have approximately 38 miles of the Grand
Parkway (3rd loop around Houston) that will be built in my two counties. I’ve attached a map of
the area office location.
I am also looking to hire a summer employee to assist us with our summer construction work
load and I’ve attached a flyer with some information regarding that program. Please see
http://Lowery.tamu.edu/announcements/OmarTxDOT.pdf
Potential candidates can visit www.txdot.gov to fill out an application. If any candidates have
any questions please have them contact me via email or at the office number listed below.

I hope you are well. My company is looking to fill another position. We did hire a CE undergrad

I’d greatly appreciate if you can include this your CE job listings.
H2B, Inc. is seeking to fill a position for an experienced civil engineer. The
engineer will work as part of a team on projects that will likely include civil site
designs (layout, grading, drainage design, detention pond design, etc),
transportation related designs (horizontal and vertical alignment design, hydraulic
design, traffic control, etc), and building designs (structural design for metal
building foundations, and wood, steel, masonry, and concrete superstructures
and miscellaneous structures). Tasks may include project design (both

through various municipalities, and handling client requests.
The ideal candidate will have the skills necessary to work in AutoCAD and

Dr. Lowery:
Man was I surprised when the young lady gave me your name as the contact for advertising a job
opening. I am so pleased that you are still around! I hope the years past have been good to you and your
family and that future years are glorious.
Now, the point of my contact:
I have a job opening for an Assistant County Engineer. Could you help me advertise this opening among
your students – those who are nearing graduation? The work of the County Engineer doesn’t necessarily
need the credentials associated with an E.I.T. or P.E.; however, those attributes always bring additional
credibility. At a minimum we need a graduate civil engineer, ideally someone familiar with road/bridge
construction means and methods, can review plans, and can schedule work and budget for projects. I am
nearing retirement and will remain here long enough to train a “green” recruit; however, if there is one of
those unique students that came into an engineering program after being in the field or grew up around
construction --- well, that would be ideal. Regardless, I’d be happy to consider any smart and energetic
graduate who enjoys a challenge.
Let me know if you have any prospects.

Hi Dr. Lowery,
I am part of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 2008 and am coming to you because we are in
search of 2 Civil Engineers to fill positions on our Hydrology and Hydraulics (H&H) team at
Pape-Dawson Engineers in Houston, TX. I would appreciate it if you could disseminate the two
open positions outlined below to the students through the listserv for us.
The first position we would like to fill is for a new graduate from May 2015, August 2015, or
December 2015. The second position is for someone with about 4-5 years of experience who is
looking for a change from their current position.
Pape-Dawson Engineers is headquartered in San Antonio, TX and is primarily rooted in land
development, transportation, water resources, environmental, and surveying, and has staff that is
dedicated and working to making this company the most respected engineering firm in our
geographic and technical areas of expertise. We also have branch offices in Houston, Austin,
Fort Worth, and Dallas/Plano. Here in Houston, we are a fairly young group with a great
working environment and have quite a few Aggie engineers on staff. We foster a great learning
atmosphere for all of our employees, especially our EITs, providing many training opportunities
throughout the year from both internal and external sources. Interested students can learn more
about what Pape-Dawson does as a company on our website at
www.pape-dawson.com. They can also see what benefits the company provides as well as our
company culture.
The first position is for someone who has recently graduated or is planning to graduate in
December 2015. This person would ideally have their EIT or have passed the FE exam, and
would be enthusiastic about learning and growing as a Hydrology and Hydraulics H&H
engineer. They will work directly with experienced Professional Engineers (PEs) in our H&H
group to provide technical knowledge, analysis, and design for both public and private
engineering projects in Houston and across the state of Texas for our various clients. Some of
the projects that we typically work on include: watershed studies, H&H modeling and design
(HEC-HMS, steady/unsteady/2D HEC-RAS, XPSWMM), detention design, feasibility studies,
storm design, regulatory submittals, floodplain mapping and map changes, and H&H support for
our residential and commercial development teams. Currently, this new graduate H&H position
56
has not yet been listed on our careers page, so please instruct students to contact me directly with
questions and/or resumes at MLeclair@pape-dawson.com using “Houston H&H EIT” in the
subject line. Cover letters are optional (they can use the email itself as their cover letter if they
choose), but it helps us get a better understanding of each individual, their interests, and career
goals.
The second position would ideally be someone with about 3-5 years of experience in H&H
engineering and modeling. This person should have good communication skills, experience in
watershed wide studies using typical modeling software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS,
XPSWMM, and have experience with GIS. Microstation experience is a plus for this
position. Preferably, this person would have their PE license or the ability to attain it within 6
months of employment. Candidates interested in this position may apply online through our
careers page and can also send questions and resumes directly to me at MLeclair@papedawson.com using “Houston H&H Opportunity” in the subject line
If there’s any additional information you need from me please let me know. I’m happy to
answer any questions that you, or the students have about these open positions. Thank you for
your time and Gig ‘Em!

Subject: Goodwin & Marshall Co-op Opportunity Spring-Summer 2016
Dr. Lowery,
Please post the following job opportunity to the C.E. Listserve. Goodwin & Marshall, Inc. attended the
recent Engineering Career fair at A&M and met some excellent co-op prospects, but we would like to
meet a few more. We are interested in Aggies in the Civil Engineering program that were unable to
speak with us at the Career Fair and would like to pursue a Co-op opportunity with our company.
Goodwin & Marshall, Inc. (G&M) is currently seeking undergraduate civil engineering students that are
interested in a Cooperative Education Opportunity for the 2015 Spring and Summer semesters. G&M
has a well-defined college cooperative education program and for the last 15 years G&M has worked
with co-op programs and students from several universities, particularly Texas A&M University. We are
looking for civil engineering students that have a superior work ethic, a great attitude, and the desire to
gain actual design experience before graduation. G&M maintains a full-time staff of 15 professional
engineers and surveyors. Due to the size of the company, co-op students are provided with the
opportunity to work closely with the professional engineers on staff. Consequently, co-op students at
G&M are integral to the design process and will be working on real projects with real deadlines and
budgets.
The secondary purpose of the co-op program with G&M is to establish long-term relationships with the
highest caliber of engineering student. Several full-time members of our staff began their careers as co-
63
op students, including a handful of Aggies. Since G&M implemented the co-op program, over 70 college
students (nearly half of them Aggies) have gained invaluable experience that they have utilized to begin
successful careers in civil engineering.
The G&M office is located in Grapevine, TX which is centrally located within the DFW
Metroplex. Additional information can be found on our website at www.gmcivil.com.
Undergraduate civil engineering students interested in this Co-op opportunity can apply by sending their
resume to mbaacke@gmcivil.com. There is also a job posting on the A&M Career Center website.
G&M will also be at the Career Fair in January for students interested in a 2016 Summer-Fall Co-op.

Howdy Dr. Lowery!
I trust you’re doing well and still helping to shape the minds of Aggieland’s newest generations
of engineers. Business is good for my company, and we are currently looking to hire another
young civil engineer, ideally someone with some good internship experience and/or up to 2 years
of post-graduate experience. This company has been wonderful to work for, and the work I do is
very rewarding. I appreciate if you will add our listing to your job listing database; we had good
luck in the past with one graduate engineer who is still with us and is a very important part of our
team. Below is our official job listing.

Dr. Lowery,
It was nice to meet you over the phone this morning. You may remember a former
student from a few years back named Mark Rollins. He is Al Rollins, our founder’s,
son. We have a long history with Texas A&M, and we want to keep it going.
Please post or send the job posting below to any new graduate that you think might be

We also will be very interested in May graduates and summer interns. We will be back
in touch with you in February.
Have a Merry Christmas
