The Paul Gampe Excellence Prize in Open Source
The Paul Gampe Excellence Prize in Open Source is a gift from alumnus Paul Gampe. This prize
encourages and rewards student excellence and achievement in open source development and software.
Students will be encouraged to use the prize money to further their interest in open source through
purchase of hardware/software, or travel funds to participate in leading global conferences.
VALUE OF PRIZE: $2,000
ELIGIBILITY:
An applicant is eligible for the prize, if the applicant (a) submits an application to the Head of School, by the closing date for applications; and
(b) Eligibile students intending to graduate in semester 1 or semester 2, 2015 in one of the following
programs  Bachelor of Information Technology Honours;
 Bachelor of Multimedia Design Honours;
 Bachelor of Science Honours (Computer Science);
 Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program in the field
of Software Engineering;
 Integrated Bachelor of Engineering/Master of Engineering or Bachelor of
Engineering(Honours)/Master of Engineering in field of Software Engineering;
 Any dual program that includes one of the above programs.
SELECTION OF THE SCHOLARSHIP The Prize is awarded to the person who, in the opinion of the selection committee, shows the greatest merit
and need for the prize by demonstration of commitment to open source practice and/or research.
TO APPLY:
1.
Please submit a cover letter addressed to the Professor Paul Strooper, Head of School, School of
Information Technology and Electrical Engineering.
2.
An essay of no more than 400 words on your interest in open source. These can be, but do not
need to be related to your work as part of the UQ curriculum. The essay should address:(i) Your personal interest in open source
(ii) Details on your project(s) in open source if any, – its past, current and/or future impact
(iii) How you would use the prize to further their commitment to open source3.

A copy of your resume.
