Students worked for weeks gathering information about the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, India and China. For each civilization they compared the following characteristics of a civilization: cities, government, religion, social structure, job specialization, public works, writing, and art/architecture. Their final project was to make large, poster-sized charts that show the similarities of the four civilizations within each characteristic. The charts are on display in the library. Mrs. Stuthard was extremely proud of the higher-level thinking skills the students displayed during this process! Perfect Regular Season! The 8th Grade Girls Basketball Team completed their season this month with a perfect 16-0 record! In tournament play, they advanced to the championship game but were unable to claim the 1st place trophy against a feisty Wadsworth team. In 2 years of Middle School basketball, this team has finished with a final record of 34-3. The girls are committed to getting back to work in the offseason and look forward to playing High School basketball next year. "The most important game is always the next one!" Congratulations to all the girls on a great season and 2 years of success at Revere Middle School Wrestling Wrap-Up Our middle school wrestlers had a terrific season and finished the year with a dual meet record of 15 wins and 12 losses. Our 2012-2013 dual meet record contained many outstanding performances as a team. A couple of our December tournaments produced two second place finishes by the team at the Twinsburg Duals and the Cardinal Middlefield Duals, and led to our guys bringing home some hardware in the form of team trophies. Within the Suburban League, our record was a disappointing 2 - 5 with the two wins coming over Green and Nordonia. But several of the league losses were actually very close and hinged on the fact that our wrestling team was not able to fill 3 of the 16 weight classes. Individually, our four team captains, Brody Muir-Johnson, Thomas Baker, Nicholas Kelly, and Timmy Vlasek provided exceptional leadership and helped the team to improve over the course of three months. Overall, our 8th graders as a group did a fine job of leading by example, and Coach Laurenzi and Coach Lockmiller are hopeful that most of them will continue wrestling at the high school level. If we can get a dozen of these boys to continue wrestling as freshmen, our program will begin to take off. This year we had 39 boys come out for wrestling and 22 of them were just 7th graders. But considering that many of our 7th graders were able to wrestle in 15 - 25 varsity matches we should have a solid group of experienced wrestlers that hopefully will occupy most of our 16 weight classes. This obviously bodes well for the wrestling program and should provide our middle school fans with some entertaining matches next season !!!
