Effective communication is essential for building school-family partnerships. It constitutes the foundation for all other forms of family involvement in education. Parents benefit from being involved in their children's education by getting ideas from school on how to help and support their children, and by learning more about the school's academic program and how it works. Perhaps most important, parents benefit by becoming more confident about the value of their school involvement. Parents develop a greater appreciation for the important role they play in their children's education. Substantial evidence exists showing that parent involvement benefits students, including raising their academic achievement. There are other advantages for children when parents become involved — namely, increased motivation for learning, improved behavior, more regular attendance, and a more positive attitude about homework and school in general (readingrockets.org). If you have any ideas for ways to increase communication between school and parents, please let me know. We want everyone involved in all of the wonderful things happening at White Mountain Middle School. Knowing dinner is served at approximately the same time every night and that the entire family will be sitting down together is comforting and enhances appetite. Breakfast is another great time for a family meal, especially since kids who eat breakfast tend to do better in school. *Cook more meals at home. Eating home cooked meals is healthier for the whole family and sets a great example for kids about the importance of food. Restaurant meals tend to have more fat, sugar, and salt. Save dining out for special occasions. -http://www.helpguide.org/life/healthy_eating_chi ldren_teens.htm 2014/15 Yearbooks Order Yours Now! In the Front Office $15 while supplies last!
