Drawing Exploration: Take a walk and observe your
surroundings. In your sketchbook do 5 sketches of different
views or aspects of your environment. Focus on what captures
your interest- a building, a tree, a person. Once you have
completed your sketches go back and find what was most
visually interesting to you. Return to the spot of the sketch and
develop the drawing, bringing it beyond the “sketch”. Include
notes. DUE SEPTEMBER 22
2 pages
Photography Exploration: Take a walk with your camera and
photograph what excites you. Work on creating interesting
compositions that consider how the viewer sees your “place”.
Try creative angles, close-ups and long shots. Explore interiors,
exteriors, landscapes, cityscapes, people. Take lots of pictures
and when you are done select 5 photos that you feel are your
strongest and capture a sense of place that you will present and
discuss in your VJ. Include notes.
DUE SEPTEMBER 26
1-2 Pages
Object Collection: Over several days collect small items you find
around you as you move through the day. Receipts, wrappers, a
leaf, a coin, part of newspaper. The objects may tell a story about
your journey through the day. Assemble the objects into a kind
of order, draw them, attach them to the paper like a collage,
create a small found object sculpture by arranging them into one
work of art. Document this process in your VJ through collage,
drawings and/or photographs. Create a context for the objects to
belong together. Include notes. DUE SEPTEMBER 26

might you use this in future artwork development?
Project Guidelines….
 Use one or more of the media introduced during media explorations in class.
(watercolor, collage, oil pastel, photo transfer)
 Create an idea that reflects where you are now. This is broad and open-ended so
you can explore a variety of ways to represent this concept.
 Connect your work to an artist. This does not mean you have to copy a style,
concept or medium but that you should be able to make a connection with
another artist.
Tips…
 Connect your research to YOU.
 Go DEEPER with your research.
 Be creative with your pages. You should enjoy making and looking at the pages
you create.
 Don’t be afraid to make mistakes in you VJ. Failures are a key part of the artistic
process. Discuss why it failed and what your learned from the exercise.
