In your Visual Journal…. 5 pages Drawing Exploration: Take a walk and observe your surroundings. In your sketchbook do 5 sketches of different views or aspects of your environment. Focus on what captures your interest- a building, a tree, a person. Once you have completed your sketches go back and find what was most visually interesting to you. Return to the spot of the sketch and develop the drawing, bringing it beyond the “sketch”. Include notes. DUE SEPTEMBER 22 2 pages Photography Exploration: Take a walk with your camera and photograph what excites you. Work on creating interesting compositions that consider how the viewer sees your “place”. Try creative angles, close-ups and long shots. Explore interiors, exteriors, landscapes, cityscapes, people. Take lots of pictures and when you are done select 5 photos that you feel are your strongest and capture a sense of place that you will present and discuss in your VJ. Include notes. DUE SEPTEMBER 26 1-2 Pages Object Collection: Over several days collect small items you find around you as you move through the day. Receipts, wrappers, a leaf, a coin, part of newspaper. The objects may tell a story about your journey through the day. Assemble the objects into a kind of order, draw them, attach them to the paper like a collage, create a small found object sculpture by arranging them into one work of art. Document this process in your VJ through collage, drawings and/or photographs. Create a context for the objects to belong together. Include notes. DUE SEPTEMBER 26 2-4 Pages 2 Artist Models: Select two artist models and research each artist. -Include a photo of the artist and/or quote, 1 photocopy of an artwork and 1 sketch of another artwork. -Discuss the use of elements/principles, style, techniques; subject matter -Discuss cultural, social , or historical importance. Did it influence these things or was it the other way around? -How is the artist and work viewed by the outside world? -Connect your ideas to these artists DUE OCTOBER 7 2-3 Pages Research and Brainstorm: Brainstorm your ideas for the final project. Make notes, diagrams, thumbnails. Be thorough and make several large sketches showing varying concepts. Don’t forget to show media exploration on your sketches. DUE OCTOBER 7 1-2 Pages Process: Take pictures of your work through out the development of your work. Include 3 to 4 images of this process. Include notes at different stages of the process. It would be best to make notes as you work. Do not try to make notes after the fact when you aren’t in the same place. DUE OCTOBER 27 2 Pages Artist Comparison/Contrast: Compare and contrast two artists from the artist model handout. Include the following: -1 work of art by each artist -Discuss the use of elements/principles, style, techniques; subject matter -Discuss cultural, social, or historical importance and differences -DON’T make the expected Venn Diagram DUE OCTOBER 27 1-2 Pages Reflection page on the artwork that includes a picture of final work. Include a discussion of at least two elements and principles, discuss successes and how it could be improved. How might you use this in future artwork development? Project Guidelines…. Use one or more of the media introduced during media explorations in class. (watercolor, collage, oil pastel, photo transfer) Create an idea that reflects where you are now. This is broad and open-ended so you can explore a variety of ways to represent this concept. Connect your work to an artist.
