1. Purpose of Position.
CBCHS is a multi-sited community health agency providing a comprehensive range of health and

client care.
The position of Speech Pathologist is to provide speech pathology services to preschool aged children
with mild to moderate developmental delays, and their families. Services provided include assessment,
individual and group based treatment and consultation and support to parents and educators. The service
adapts a family-centred approach and a high priority is placed on forming collaborative relationships with
families to empower and educate families to manage their child’s needs.

2. Key Responsibilities
Clinical/ Professional Expertise
 Provide speech pathology services to pre-schoolers in accordance with CBCHS’ objective to provide
programs and services, which are responsive and accountable to the community.
 Provide an efficient and effective paediatric Speech Pathology service, according to the principles of
family centred practice.
 Conduct assessments, utilising standardised and non-standardised assessments, in conjunction with
observational assessment to establish appropriate therapy programmes for clients
 Demonstrate a high level of clinical skill across the age groups eligible for service.
 Ensure that the service operates in a climate of best practice public health.
 Ensure that client files are maintained and managed in accordance with CBCHS policy and
procedures.
Measurement and Reporting
 Manage client case ratios effectively to ensure that case loads are met.
 Contribute to the effective functioning of the service by ensuring that accurate and appropriate
documentation of client information, statistics and educational material is maintained. This
includes maintaining relevant databases including Trakcare.
 Maintain accurate medical and statistical records in accordance with CBCHS policy and
procedures.

Team Responsibilities
 Establish and foster effective working relationships within the Child Development Service.
 Promptly complete Child Development team documentation/statistical input as and when required.







Participate in regular reviews and development of policies, procedures, standards and evaluation
relating to CDS service delivery strategies.
Effective representation and participation in designated meetings including team meetings and case
conferences.
Assist and participate in development and implementation of quality initiatives within Primary Health.
Participate in projects and initiatives as required.
Attend staff, team and other relevant meetings.
As part of an integrated team, undertake other relevant duties, projects and initiatives which are
consistent with skill, competence and training.
Other duties as directed.
3. Organisational Responsibilities

required to supervise/support clients adequately.
Health Promotion – Optional (except for Primary Health).
 Contribute to CBCHS health promotion activities and participate in developing relevant programs and
projects in line with CBCHS Health Promotion Plan.
 Work collaboratively with other health professionals in developing a comprehensive multi-disciplinary
health promotion approach to the local community as required.
Community Participation
 Promote awareness to the community that CBCHS encourages consumer, carer, and community
participation at all levels of the organisation.
 Participate in recruiting consumers, carers, and community in individual care, surveys, focus groups
and committees as required. Work collaboratively with other health professionals in developing a
community participation approach to service delivery.

5. Key Selection Criteria
Mandatory
 Bachelor of Applied Science (Speech Pathology) or recognised equivalent qualification.
 Eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia.
 Experience in providing speech pathology services to children and families.
 Experience in facilitating group therapy sessions.
 Willingness to work in an integrated multi-disciplinary team.
 Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
 Ability to provide appropriate assessment and treatment to preschool aged children and their
families.
 Commitment to family-centred practice and ability to positively engage with children and
families.
 Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
 Willingness to commit to professional development.
 Ability to meet annual performance targets and service initiatives as directed by the Department
of Health and CBCHS.
 Computer literacy.
 Current Victorian Drivers licence.
