The ASL club tries to get involved with the high school activities as well as the middle schools and elementary schools in our area. We interact with deaf students around the area and try to make them feel more welcome. The choir is very active in the Kingwood community and will occasionally perform in more exotic places like New York, Orlando, London, etc. The choir also puts on the annual pop schow each year as well as a major works concert, featuring an extended work of one kind or another. They also host a variety of social events for choir members including singing the national anthem at an Astro's game most years. We meet during baseball season to decorate the locker room, decorate boys' lockers, make signs for the games, provide game day goodies and to cheer the players on at the games. Since 2004, the club has attracted more than seventy young men each year, and is currently the 3rd largest athletic team at KHS. The spring season starts in early January and runs through April, culminating in district/state championships. All of these shows are open to all KHS students regardless of their enrollment in a theatre class. Students may choose to audition for a part in the play or work on various crews necessary to produce to produce the play. Students may try their hand at set construction, properties, costuming, lighting, sound engineering or publicty and marketing. The theatre department prides itself as an organization that has a place for everybody. In addition to the fun work that is done in the department, we are also a member of the International Thespian Society. In order to be a part of the ITS a student must earn 20 thespian points. Points are earned by involvement in the theatre department or drama club. Points vary based on the activity and follow the guidelines set by the ITS. Once a student earns 60 points (Honor Thespian Status) they will receive a letter jacket. In addition, upon graduation these students will be presented with their honor chords which they will wear as they walk at graduation.
