2016 Europe School Tour Fundraiser Sausage Sizzle K and D, Cambridge Park – Sunday 30 August Members of the Rose Bay High School 2016 Europe School Tour Fundraising Committee encourage all members of the school community to support their inaugural event. The Sausage Sizzle will be conducted at K and D, Cambridge Park from 9: 00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Sunday, 30 August. The enterprise aims to raise money to strengthen the educational opportunities of our students while on the Western Front in France and Belgium. Funds raised from the committee’s endeavours will contribute to extending the employment of a professional tour guide who will enhance the students’ historical understanding of the locations visited and the events which occurred there. Significantly, it will also allow students to share and better empathise with the stories of those who were involved in these tragic events of national importance. As the entire tour is centred on our students’ presence at the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Fromelles Service (perhaps the Western Front’s equivalent of this year’s Centenary events held at Gallipoli), the provision of a tour guide in the days before, during and after the service is sure to make this sector of the tour a valuable, memorable and once in a lifetime occasion. The importance of our students attending this event is best justified by the quote: Over 5,500 Australians became casualties. The worst 24 hours in Australian history occurred 90 years ago at Fromelles. Not the worst in Australian military history, the worst 24 hours in Australia's entire history. The Australians suffered 5,533 casualties in one night. https://www.awm.gov.au/wartime/36/article.asp Fromelles is also associated with a history mystery that spanned nearly 100 years. It is the location of the new Commonwealth War Grave and the burial place of the Missing Diggers of Fromelles. The Committee hopes the Sausage Sizzle is a major success and is hoping to see all parents/carers of children participating in the Europe Tour at the barbecue. Equally, members would warmly welcome your presence at the fundraising event, even if it is to share your family stories of those who served in World War 1 or find out more about the 2016 Europe School Tour. Remember, up until September 1, limited places are still available for students to become involved in this tour of a lifetime. http://monumentaustralia.org.au/content/directory/full/Battle_of_Fromelles_-20828-99370.jpg http://www.smh.com.au/content/dam/images/i/2/b/6/image.related.articleLeadwide.620x349.i25h.png/1257512935753.jpg https://www.google.com.au/search?q=lost+diggers+Battle+of+Fromelles&safe=active&biw=1093&bih=499&site=webhp&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAYQ_ AUoAWoVChMIqZqy_di2xwIVSpeUCh28KQkO#imgrc=_ http://www.battlefield-tours.com.au/assets/images/fromelles-cemetery-654.jpg http://ipreferparis.typepad.com/.a/6a00d83451b0bd69e20153935ca650970b-pi http://chadstonebasketball.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/sausagesizzle.jpg
