This documentary introduces the key ideas of his influential theories, in particular evaluating the world as a series of systems containing those of individuals, societies and ecosystems. The lecture will include a panel discussion of Bateson’s work. (This lecture forms the start of a two-day multidisciplinary workshop for postgraduate students with an interest in creative ecologies.) Lead: Chris Speed ESALA Confirmed Eligibility Date Venue Bookings The gallery has many data projectors that may project inside or outside – introverting the space or extroverting it. Students are be encouraged to make a short video piece that responds to the idea of a skin for the building and should carefully consider whether the audience should inside or outside to view this skin. Since the data projectors throw on to a translucent screens over the glass windows it would be possible to move inside and outside the gallery to experience the skin as a membrane. Other works might want to consider the connection between the projectors – as though large landscape screens that are synced in time. We will have an introductory talk on the use of earth plasters, and then students will be able to work over the two days to create earth plaster plaques, using a range of materials and techniques.
