NUMBER OF PERSONS IN THE WORKING AGE OF SULTAN KUDARAT
INCREASED BY 2.48 PERCENT
(Results from the 2007 Census of Population)
Population increased by 90,557 persons
Sultan Kudarat had a total population of 677,062 persons as of August 1, 2007,
higher by 15.4 percent compared to the census count of 586,505 persons as of
May 1, 2000. These figures translated to an annual population growth rate of 2.0
percent for the period 2000 to 2007.
The household population of Sultan Kudarat in 2007 was 676,482 persons, an
increase of 15.5 percent from the 585,768 persons in 2000. The number of
households increased by 25.3 percent from 114,461 households in 2000 to
143,437 households in 2007. The average household size in 2007 was 4.7
persons, lower than the average household size of 5.1 persons in 2000.
City of Tacurong remained on top in terms of population size
Despite being the provincial capital, the municipality of Isulan ranked only second
(11.7 percent share to the total provincial population) in terms of population size.
The City of Tacurong contributed the biggest share of 12.2 percent in 2007.
These two areas were followed by the municipalities of Palimbang (11.6 percent)
and Lebak (11.4 percent). The municipality of Columbio was the least populated
(3.5 percent) in both the 2000 and 2007 censuses.
Sex ratio was 106 males per 100 females
Males continued to outnumber females in the province of Sultan Kudarat. In
2007, a sex ratio of 106 males for every 100 females was reported. This ratio was
higher than the sex ratio reported in 2000 at 105 males per 100 females in 2000
census.
Median age increased to 20 years
In 2007, the median age of the household population of the province was 20
years, which means that half of the household population were below 20 years
old. This was higher compared to the median age of 19 years in 2000.
Contributing 13.0 percent to the total household population, children aged 5 to 9
years comprised the largest age group. Children aged 0 to 4 years old and 10 to
14 years old followed, each with 12.4 percent share to the total household
population.
Males outnumbered females in age groups 0 to 64 years old while more females
than males were reported in age groups 65 years old and over.
More than half of the voting-age population were males
The voting-age population (18 years old and over) of Sultan Kudarat in 2007
comprised 55.3 percent of the household population. In 2000, 52.5 percent of the
household population were in the voting age. There were more males (51.6
percent) than females (48.4 percent) in the voting-age population in 2007.
Dependents decreased to 69 persons per 100 persons in the working-age
population
About three-fifths (59.1 percent) of the household population belonged to the
working-age population (15 to 64 years). Persons considered to be economically
dependent accounted for the remaining two-fifths of the household population,
with 37.8 percent young dependents (under 15 years) and 3.1 percent old
dependents (65 years and over).
The overall dependency ratio for household population of Sultan Kudarat in 2007
was 69 persons per 100 persons in the working age group. This means that for
every 100 persons aged 15-64 years, there were 69 dependents (64 young
dependents and 5 old dependents). In 2000, the overall dependency ratio was 77
persons per 100 persons in the working-age population (72 young dependents
and 5 old dependents).
More never-married males than females
Of the household population 10 years old and over, 44.4 percent were never
married while 48.5 percent were married. The remaining proportion were either
widowed (4.0 percent), divorced/separated (0.7 percent), had common-law/live-in
marital arrangement (2.1 percent), or had unknown marital status (0.3 percent).
Males (55.8 percent) outnumbered their female (44.2 percent) counterparts in the
never-married category. The rest of the categories for marital status was
dominated by females.
More female academic- and post baccalaureate-degree holders than males
Approximately 39.8 percent of the household population 5 years old and over had
attended or completed elementary education, 30.8 percent had reached or
finished high school, 5.6 percent were college undergraduates, and 5.2 percent
were academic degree holders.
There were more female academic degree holders (57.5 percent) than males
(42.5 percent). Similarly, among those persons with post baccalaureate degrees,
there were more females (59.6 percent) than males (40.4 percent).
Three out of five persons aged 5 to 24 years attended school
Approximately 58.0 percent of the household population 5 to 24 years old had
attended school during School Year 2007 to 2008. School attendance was lower
among males (57.2 percent of the total males aged 5 to 24 years old) than
among females (58.9 percent of the total females aged 5 to 24 years old) during
the said school year.
Occupied housing units increased by 25.5 percent
In 2007, there were 141,984 occupied housing units in Sultan Kudarat. This is
25.5 percent higher than the 113,104 occupied housing units recorded in 2000. A
ratio of 101 households per 100 occupied housing units was recorded in both the
2000 and 2007 censuses. Moreover, the number of persons per occupied
housing unit was 4.8 persons in 2007, lower than the ratio of 5.2 persons per
occupied housing unit in 2000.
Most occupied housing units used light construction materials for the outer
walls
Housing units with outer walls made of bamboo/sawali/cogon/nipa accounted for
45.7 percent of the total occupied housing units. Meanwhile, housing units that
used concrete/brick/stone for the outer walls had increased, from 13.3 percent in
2000 to 17.3 percent in 2007.
On the other hand, housing units that used galvanized iron/aluminum for roof
comprised 55.4 percent of the total housing units in 2007, an increase of 11.6
percentage points from 43.8 percent in 2000.
