Description: Seeking Food Servicer Director-Chef for leading urban charter
school that embraces nutrition and food learning as integral to its philosophy of
Expeditionary Learning® and student success. This is an exciting opportunity to
work in a setting where food service is a valued component of the school culture
and educational experience, as reflected in the school’s progressive policies (e.g.
“No Junk Food” policy) and curriculum (e.g. mandatory nutrition course and exam
as a condition of graduation) that address nutrition and health. The school’s
partnership with Codman Square Health Center enhances the opportunities for
building a strong food service and learning program and to plan and implement
appropriate evaluation.
The Food Service Director-Chef executes, supervises, monitors, oversees, and
evaluates Codman Academy’s daily food preparation and service, menu planning
and food procurement operations; collaborates with administrative staff in
management of all aspects of USDA school food program regulations,
compliance and reporting processes, including submissions of claims and budget
reconciliation. The position also entails participation in the school/health center
Wellness Council and the student Nutrition Action Club.
This is a full-time, salaried professional position with benefits on a par with other
faculty and specialty professionals at the Academy.
Qualifications: Seeking candidates who share Codman’s mission and
philosophy, which focuses on experiential learning and social justice and who
desire to work in a collaborative environment that values innovation supported by
disciplined planning, organization and operations. Experience working with lowincome communities of color is necessary. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree
and/or Culinary degree that includes course work in institutional food service. At
least six years of progressively responsible experience in food preparation, menu
planning and food service and in managing USDA subsidized feeding programs
or equivalent training and experience is necessary.
