JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title Commercial Heating Engineer Base Location Manchester Business Unit/Area Public Buildings Reporting To Job Title Contract Leader Date of Issue October 2015 Objectives To provide Day 2 Day repairs, servicing and maintenance of Gas and Oil fired heating appliances within Public Buildings and commercial premises and associated plant and equipment in accordance with the relevant safety regulations and departmental procedures. Ad hoc duties as necessary to meet the collaborative working relationship with the business client and general public. Specific Responsibilities Repair or replace components on commercial heating systems Repair or replace components on commercial gas / oil fired heating appliances Locate and repair leaks on heating systems Trace, diagnose and repair faults on gas / oil fired heating appliances Carry out programmed maintenance and servicing on commercial heating systems Carry out programmed maintenance and servicing on gas / oil fired heating appliances Trace, diagnose and repair faults on domestic hot water systems Repair or replace components associated with heating controls Participate in a 24/7 out of hours roster To undertake multi skilling tasks and other maintenance work on site as required including work in listed buildings Carry out repairs and maintenance on non gas elements of district heating installations Carry out routine safety checks Maintain and replenish impress stock Drive and be responsible for a Company vehicle within the business’s regulations / instructions as required Complete all necessary associated work documentation and certification both electronically and manually Obtain Client’s signatures for completed work F-HRM-230 18/09/2009 Page 1 of 3 JOB DESCRIPTION Liaise with Clients/Customers when arranging and carrying out work, having full regard to their needs Work from verbal, written and electronic instructions, risk assessments, drawings, diagrams, sketches, calculations using measuring equipment where appropriate Assess, plan and request parts and materials required to carry out the work Report to the Contract Leader any faulty appliances installations or equipment which do not comply with the current safety regulations Operate all machinery and equipment in a safe and correct manner using all safety devices and practices Handle and transport materials in a safe working manner Ensure work areas are left in a clean and safe manner on completion of work Look after tools, materials and equipment guarding against loss or theft and making them ready for use when required Report finding of asbestos through the business’s Asbestos Procedure Supervise and control apprentices, educating them to the standards expected by the business, ensuring they work in a safe and efficient manner To carry out appropriate alternative work as and when required To record and document work activities / deliveries The post holder must carry out his/her duties in accordance with the business’s Equal Opportunities and No Smoking Policies To carry out all duties in accordance with safety regulations and Health and Safety procedures Read, Understand and Comply with the HSEQ Policy and Procedures Always work in accordance with any Risk Assessment, Method Statement, Manufacturer’s Instructions or Safe System of Work Comply with the DSE Regulations Ensure that relevant Task Specific Risk Assessments are available for tasks such as Work at Height, Electrical, Gas, COSHH and Manual Handling etc. and that training is current and in place Develop a concern for personal safety and the safety of others Co-operate with the company in all matters pertaining to SHE Do not operate any plant or equipment that has become defective Report and Record any Personal Injury or Occupational Health matter and ensure you inform your line manager Ensure you are aware of local First Aiders, Welfare provision and Emergency Procedures Report and Record Near Miss situations Take care of your own health and safety and the safety of others whilst at work and ensure you do not cause harm to others or the environment through your acts or omissions Ensure Good Housekeeping F-HRM-230 18/09/2009 Page 2 of 3 JOB DESCRIPTION Where the post holder is disabled, every effort will be made to supply all necessary aids, adaptions or equipment to allow them to carry out all duties of the job. If, however, a certain task proves to be unachievable, job redesign will be given full consideration Person Specification & Qualifications Completion of a recognised apprenticeship or equivalent and / or a minimum of NVQ level 3 or its equivalent i.e. relevant City & Guilds Basic Craft Certificate, with a minimum of 3 years experience Current Commercial & Domestic ACS with a minimum requirement of, CCN1, CENWAT, HTR1, CPA1 COCN1, TCPC1A, ICPN1, CIGA1, CORT1, CCP1 Experience working in a Building Construction Industry and/or commercial / process industries Must possess a valid full driving licence Must be prepared to work anywhere that the client or its agents require The post holder must be prepared to comply with all client and business policies Must be prepared to work at heights using ladders, scaffolding, and work in confined spaces and in a variety of work conditions that may prevail at that time Must possess a full, well-maintained tool kit at all times Must be able to establish and maintain good customer/client relationships working in a collaborative and customer facing environment with a publicly used building Must be able to participate in emergency service involving working outside normal hours as and when required Must be prepared to undertake any additional training associated with the specific requirements of the trade, as well as training in Equal Opportunities The ability to work with the minimum of supervision and as part of a team Line Manager’s Comments (as appropriate) F-HRM-230 18/09/2009 Page 3 of 3
