BIG ENERGY SAVING CHALLENGE Sit down as a family and see where you can save energy and money. Tick the ones you agree to do. 1. Turn your central heating down by just 1% - you could save £85-£90 a year. Turn heating and water onto a timer. Put on a jumper instead of turning the heating up. 2. When the room is empty - Turn off the light. Do not leave TVs, computers and appliances on standby. Leaving appliances on standby can cost approx. £50 a year. 3 Turn the washing machine down to 30 degrees. Only wash a full load. Hang washing outside on dry days rather than using a tumble dryer, 4. 5. 6. Do not fill a kettle up, just add the amount of water you need - you will save about £7 a year! Have a shower rather than a bath. One bath uses the same amount of water as 12 showers. Do not leave the tap running when you clean your teeth. Put lids on saucepans and turn the heat down a little so that the heat is only under the pan and not escaping up the sides. At the end of the week, how did you and your family do? Talk to your family. What more can you do to save energy?
