CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS Imagine Peace Youth Camp From the 25th of July to the 1st of August 2014 Organizer: British Council and International Olympic Truce Centre Date: 25 July-1 August 2014 (Travel days: 25th and 1st of August) Venue: International Olympic Academy Facilities in Ancient Olympia, Greece Participants: 80 participants from more than 10 countries AIMS AND OBJECTIVES The overall aim of the Imagine Peace Youth Camp is to engage young people in interactive workshops and sport activities that promote the Olympic Values (Respect, Excellence and Friendship) as well as peace, intercultural dialogue and respect in diversity. • To share among participants their personal experiences identifying commonalities and specificities between them • To explore the role of sports in peace building and development • To develop the competences of participants in intercultural learning • To learn about human rights as framework for conflict transformation and dialogue WORKING METHODS The participants will be distributed in groups of 20-25 people. A team of experienced facilitators and volunteers (one facilitator, one Olympic Champion and one volunteer per group of 20-25 participants) will develop and facilitate the programme of the Camp. Each group should be balanced in relation to gender and reflect the diversity of their communities. The programme of the Imagine Peace Youth Camp will give young people, coming from different regions with different cultural and political background, the opportunity to share, explore, and reflect on different concepts such as peace, racism, intercultural dialogue through interactive workshops and sports. The programme will be based on mutual learning situations among participants, making use of a variety of working methods. WORKING LANGUAGE: The working language of the project will be English. PROFILE OF THE PARTICIPANTS The Imagine Peace Youth Camp will bring together 80 young people from 18 to 25 years old from more than 10 countries around the world. The participants should: -be aged between 18 and 25 years -be able to communicate in English -be available and fully committed to take part in the Imagine Peace Youth Camp. -be involved in youth or community projects in their community and be motivated to implement youth initiatives for peace-building following the event - be curious, open-minded and appreciate diversity EXPENSES Lodging and local travel costs are fully covered by the organizers. **International flights should be covered by the participants.
