10 IDEAS How to use your US Sailing Credits
1. Train Level 1 Instructors to run your sailing program using a US Sailing curriculum designed by sailing experts
and perfected over many years, keeping standards of excellence in instruction high and consistent from year-toyear. ($350 per student)
2. Host a Sailing Counselor Program to teach kids under 16 how to assist Certified Sailing Instructors. With a focus
on safety, these trained counselors watch over waterfront activities and learn strategies to maintain control
over larger groups. Prepare younger teens to become your next generation of US Sailing Certified Instructors.
($130 per student)
3. By training Level 2 and Level 3 Instructors, you can offer sophisticated coaching to the avid young racers in your
sailing program. Use the availability of high-level instructor training to motivate and attract quality sailing
program instructors. Reward your best instructors by offering advancement through US Sailing’s Level 1, 2, and
3 training, a great opportunity to place your young instructors on the path to become Program Directors or
Team Coaches. (Level 2 = $295/Level 3 - $170 per student)
4. Train one or two powerboat instructors and let them improve the safety standards and skills of your entire
sailing program. Powerboat Instructor Training qualifies instructors to teach safe powerboat handling (NASBLA
certification), mark-set boat handling, safety & rescue techniques to sailing instructors, race officials and anyone
involved in event management and dockside safety. ($300 per student)
5. Train race officers: Regional Race Officers, National Race Officers, Judges, and Umpires. The Club can
“deepen the bench” for your racing programs by having more certified race officials qualified to oversee your
events. (Price varies by location)
6. Use US Sailing credits to purchase course materials for programs run by your newly certified Powerboat Safety
Instructors, Level 1, 2 & 3 Instructors and Race Officials so that they can share their knowledge with all of your
members.
7. Host a Junior Safety at Sea Seminar to introduce young sailors to big boat sailing. This one-day seminar focuses
on basic skills as well as safety and gets young sailors excited about cruising and racing on big boats. (Price varies
by location)
8.
Take your Junior Safety at Sea Seminar participants to the next level with a hands-on Junior Basic Keelboat
course. This program will give young sailors the skills confidence to participate to sail cruising boats with their
family or participate in PHRF or One-Design racing. (Price varies by location)
9. Host a Race Management Seminar, updating your race officers on techniques and best practices and ensuring
consistency in your race management practices. (Price varies by Instructor)
10. Host a Safety at Sea Seminar or Racing Rules Seminar offering your Club members interesting, valuable
content, enhancing the value of their Club membership. Great for “off-season” activities. (Price varies by
Instructor)
