2013 SFA Homecoming Competition Rules and Regulations The Traditions Council recognizes and rewards student organizations that show a tremendous amount of school spirit and drive. Organizations are awarded points based on their participation in the various events held throughout the week of Homecoming. Section I –Organization Award Filing Procedures To participate in the Homecoming Spirit Organization Award competition: Be a recognized registered organization in good standing with the University. Turn in a completed application to the SFA Involvement Center by 5 p.m. Wednesday, October 9. An organization representative must attend one of the mandatory homecoming meetings: Oct. 10 @ 5p.m. – BPSC Twilight Ballroom Oct. 11 @ 4p.m. – BPSC Twilight Ballroom Failure to attend one of these meetings MAY result in removal from the 2013 SFA Homecoming Ballot. Section II –Organization Award Point Opportunities The events are as follows: ODK Trivia Bowl Up to 150 points Cheer Competition Up to 150 points Canned Food Drive 1 point per can up to 200 points Parade Registration 50 points for participation Blood Drive 5 points per donation (1 donation/person) Up to 100 points Live United- Cardboard Challenge 1 point per play up to 200 points 50 points for participation 90’s Fashion Show Up to 150 points Organization Display Board Up to 150 points Points are tabulated at each event. Participants must report to the points table for each event and identify themselves as a member or supporter of the organization they are representing. Participants may only represent one organization per event and may not change organizations once the event has started. ORGANIZATION DISPLAY BOARD Each organization will need to purchase a board no larger than 4’ x 8’ x 1” to decorate in whatever way they choose. We suggest using a standard piece of plywood. The Organization Display Boards should convey and will be judged on the nature and spirit of SFA pride and the spirit of Homecoming. Organizations need to bring their decorated Display Boards to the BPSC Outdoor Plaza by 4:30 p.m. Monday, October 14th. A Traditions Council representative will assign organizations their display sites on campus. Display Boards will be judged at 5:15 p.m. October 14th. Organization Display Boards will be showcased throughout campus throughout the week of Homecoming. Organizations wishing to keep their boards must pick up their boards by 6 p.m. Saturday, October 19th. **Organizations who would like to purchase a board from Traditions Council for $25 can do so by October 9, 2013 and can pick up their boards on Friday October 11, 2013. The Display Board Point Scale is as follows: 1st Place 100 points nd 2 Place 50 points 3rd Place 30 points Participation 50 points BLOOD DRIVE SFA Volunteer Programs and Traditions Council in conjunction with The East Texas Blood Center will sponsor the annual SFA Homecoming Blood Drive Tuesday, October 15. Participants will receive five points for their organization for donating blood up to 100 points. Participants may only donate or attempt to donate one time for their organization. On-Campus donations are subject to availability. For additional opportunities to donate off campus due to time conflicts or availability contact Homecoming staff at the SFA Involvement Center. 90’S FASHION SHOW Organizations and Court members have the opportunity to show off their fashion sense by participating in a 90s themed fashion show. It will take place on Tuesday, October 15 from 7 pm-9pm in the Twilight Ballroom. There will be two categories; 90s fashion and 90s celebrity look alike. Organizations can only have up to 5 of their members participate in the fashion show. At the end of the show the audience will be given the chance to vote for their favorite organization/court member. First and second place will be given to the organization/court member with the most votes. 90’s Fashion Show Point Scale is as follows: 1st Place 100 points 2nd Place 50 points Participation 50 points ODK TRIVIA BOWL Trivia Bowl is a question-and-answer game played between two teams of four players each. Teams consist of up to five players (four players and an alternate.) No more than four and no fewer than three may play in any game. If for any reason a team is left with only two players, it automatically forfeits the match in progress. Each participant must be a registered student at SFA during the current semester to be eligible to compete. Participants must specify the team and organization they are representing in Trivia Bowl and may not switch teams or represent another organization at any time. Every Trivia Bowl tournament is run by the tournament director, who has the final say in all matters pertaining to the management of the tournament and implementation of the rules. 1st Place 100 points nd 2 Place 30 points 3rd Place 20 points Participation 50 points CANNED FOOD DRVE Canned food will be collected in the SFA Involvement Center on the first floor of BPSC beginning at NOON on Monday, October 14, and concluding 3 p.m. Friday, October 18th. (Drop off times must be during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. till 5 p.m.) Each can must be clearly marked with the organization’s name to receive credit. Sponsoring organizations will receive one point for each can, up to 200 cans. Additional donations will be accepted. Additional donations will not be counted for points. All food must be non-perishable, canned and in usable condition. All food will be donated to area food banks. CHEER COMPETITION Organizations have the opportunity to show their school spirit and Lumberjack pride by performing a cheer during the Homecoming Reveal at 5 p.m. October 17th in BPSC Grand Ballroom. *Organizations who would like to use sound for the cheer, must notify/supply music by Wednesday, October 16th by 5pm. The Cheer Competition Point Scale is as follows: 1st Place 100 points nd 2 Place 50 points 3rd Place 30 points Participation 50 points Rules for Competition: Team size for the purpose of the competition may not exceed 30 members. Each team will have a maximum of two minutes. If a team exceeds time limit, a five-point- per-judge penalty will be added for each violation. Because penalties are severe, it is recommended that each team practice their timing several times before attending the competition. There should not be any organized exits or other organized activity after the official ending of the routine. Each team’s presentation must comply with the Competition Safety Guidelines below. Any infraction of these specific safety guidelines will result in a 10-pointper-judge penalty. No items may be thrown out of the performance area. Teams will receive a onepoint-per-judge deduction per occurrence. Signs may be placed outside the performance area by a team member. All team members must be full-time SFA students and official members of the student organization they are representing. Teams violating this rule could forfeit their points for the election. Safety Guidelines Section A: General Program Guidelines No tossing or stacking individuals will be allowed. The use of height-increasing apparatuses is prohibited. Section B: Tumbling Tumbling skills performed over, under or through individuals is prohibited. Tumbling skills that exceed one flipping rotation are prohibited. Tumbling skills with two or more twisting rotations are prohibited. Dive rolls are prohibited. Any student choosing to tumble does so at his or her own risk and recognizes Traditions Council will not be held responsible for any accidents that may occur as a result. PARADE REGISTRATION Organizations are encouraged to participate in the annual Homecoming Parade in Downtown Nacogdoches on Saturday, October 19th. Organizations that submit a completed registration form by Wednesday, October 16th by 5p.m will receive 50 participation points towards the Spirit Award competition. LIVE UNITED CARD BOARD CHALLENGE All Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks have pride in their university and surrounding community. The Live United Card Board Challenge is an opportunity for all students to show their support for the SFA Lumberjacks as they play the Nichols State Colonels during the 2013 Homecoming game. Homecoming participants will have the opportunity to create an arcade game made out of cardboard boxes to showcase their SFA pride. On Thursday, October 17th Student United Way will host a day of play where supporters will have the chance to "play" the spirit organizations and candidates games. Plays are 1 dollar per play or three for 2 dollars (which will be generated into points for the candidate or spirit organization). All proceeds will benefit the Nacogdoches County United Way and other charities.
