5 minute break – use break as an opportunity not to smoke can look at books, use computer in library etc., socialize without a cigarette
Prepare 4 flipchart papers with the headings: The Good Things about tobacco Use, The not so good things about tobacco use, The not so good things about quitting, The good things about quitting . Break participants into
4 groups. Each group will have one of the flipchart papers with one heading.
Participants in each group will brainstorm ideas and record on flipchart paper. Once completed participants come back as a large group. Have one person or the group present their ideas to the group. Ask group if they would add anything to the topic being discussed.

Participants can use Manual to record and keep track for themselves, can give them a few minutes to fill in and take home for homework
Make one change from your routine:
Don’t use tobacco in a place where you usually use it, (eg. Car, home, office)
Separate smoking materials – lighter, cigarettes
Separate activity – don’t drink coffee with it, use it in a less comfy place
Is a technique to help curb the urge for tobacco;
Delay - the urge only lasts about 3 minutes
Deep Breathe – Take a deep breath, fill lungs with oxygen
Drink – Lots of water
Do – something else
Quitting buddy can be the same person as your support person, some people have quitting buddies in this group, or can use on-line phone support, albertaquits buddies.

Lightly press thumb, then forefinger, middle finger, index finger, pinkie finger. Press strongly and hold, then relax your fingers while still in the triangle shape. Open eyes slowly, shake out fingers.
