2014 SUPPORT FOR COLLABORATIVE TEACHING PARTNERSHIPS (SCTP) ACADEMY DESCRIPTION: A three-day, face-to-face summer Academy, in June and July 2014, will bring school/county collaborative training teams together to examine Co-Teaching. Participants will be expected to train their school or county staff and implement the co-teaching model. CONTENT: Co-Teaching is two or more people sharing instructional responsibility for students assigned to the classroom. It is two or more adults simultaneously instructing a heterogeneous group of students in a coordinated fashion. Ann Beninghof, an internationally recognized consultant and trainer, will define co-teaching structures, identify the critical components of effective co-teaching, outline practical strategies that co-teachers use and explain how to choose the best ways to meet the needs of individual students. PARTICIPANTS: It is recommended that counties select a training team of two(2) staff members that represent special education, general education, Title 1, English as a second language, interventionists, academic coaches or teachers of gifted. The training of in-district/in-school trainers will focus on implementation of effective co-teaching practices. Participants from Priority and Focus Schools will be given priority. DATES/LOCATIONS: The 2014 SCTP Academies will occur in two (2) locations on two (2) separate sets of dates accommodating one-hundred twenty (120) participants or sixty (60) teams of two (2), as follows: June 17-19 Emmanuel Baptist Church Charleston, WV Lodging: Holiday Inn & Suites South Charleston, WV July 1-3 Bridgeport Conference Center Bridgeport, WV Follow-up Support: January 15, 2015 January 16, 2015 Emmanuel Baptist Church Lodging: Holiday Inn & Suites Bridgeport Conference Center Charleston, WV South Charleston, WV Bridgeport, WV COST: The WVDE will cover the cost of the SCTP sessions including materials, meals and lodging during the summer; beginning the night before each session. Dinner will also be provided from 6:008:00 pm the the evening before the first day of the Academy. Each county has been issued a grant to finance summer travel and district determined stipends. REGISTRATION: The special education director, after conferring with appropriate personnel and the selected teams(s), will register their county’s team(s) of two (2) online at the following link http://wvde.state.wv.us/forms/2014/osp/summer-academies/.
