Script For: Faculty Development and Performance Management Template Revision Video September 2015 Carol: Hi and welcome. I am Carol Mushing, Manager of Organizational and Professional Development. Heather: Hi, I am Heather Giardine-Tuck – Faculty member in the School of Language Studies and Chief Steward for Local 240. Carol: Over the summer, I have had the privilege of working with Heather on revising the Development and Performance Management Plan. The result has been a significant improvement and the celebration of a great “union”. Heather: I echo Carol's sentiments! Our collaboration on this endeavour has indeed been a pleasure. Working together and with the cross-disciplinary input of Faculty members Darryl Hartwick, Carla Labella, Steve Pudsey, Christine Sager and Carol Shields has resulted in revised D & PMP forms that we believe will work really well for Full Time and Probationary Faculty. It has been a wonderfully collaborative process and having more user-friendly products as a result, is an added bonus. The funny thing is, Carol made me say the “D” in D & PMP, and she told me if I miss the “D”, I would be missing the development part of the process and that is the key to all of this… Carol: Heather and I would like to let you know about the changes you will see in the D & PMP form and give you the background as to why the new templates were developed.. Heather: There were two key reasons why the templates were revised. One was the desire to make the process as simple as possible for everyone involved. You told us the previous forms were long, difficult to complete and contained language you found confusing (like stretch goals). The other was the need to provide faculty members with clear performance standards and expectations, with a clear assessment against those standards Script For: Faculty Development and Performance Management Template Revision Video September 2015 Carol: there were certainly areas that I did not have the expertise or experience as a faculty member to be able to tease out on my own, such as the core skills that professors need to have to be great in the classroom and deliver the best educational experience for the student Heather: That's why the great part of this process in revising the templates was the collaboration that occurred between faculty and the college administration. The development team which provided input to the new templates consisted of the 5 cross-disciplinary faculty members we mentioned along with Christine Bb our new VP Academic, all of the Deans and Associate Deans. We would like to thank all of them for helping to improve this tool. The end result is a great improvement that provides a foundation for the discussion about faculty member’s achievements and where they want to develop professionally Carol: The rating definitions have also changed, there are now three ratings rather than 5 Successful, Developing and Did not meet Expectations Successful means... Great contribution to the organization. Majority and / or all of the overall job responsibilities and D & PMP goals were successfully delivered. Overall performance is in line with or exceeded expectations. Developing: This rating is used for individuals developing the capabilities essential to be successful on the job. Some / many of the overall responsibilities and D & PMP goals were delivered. Overall performance indicates good progress towards the expectations at a satisfactory pace. Did Not Meet Expectations: Few/some of the overall responsibilities and D & PMP goals were delivered. Overall performance is below expectations and not at the level required. Script For: Faculty Development and Performance Management Template Revision Video September 2015 You may be wondering, which template should I use for my 15/16 plan? If you have not completed the 15/16 D & PMP, this new shorter template can be used, I would recommend you take the easier route. If you have already initiated your 15/16 plan on the old version, continue to use the existing form, please DO NOT rework the plan or duplicate the work. Heather: We hope that once you see the new Development and Performance Management template, that you will see a document that allows you to highlight you accomplishments, your goals for what you would like to achieve professionally over the next year, and be a tool to facilitate the conversation about all of these things with your AD. Carol: Now that we have piqued your interest, the forms can be found on MOCOmotion, click on the HR tab, Employees resources. As always, should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to give me a call or send me an email.
