Name: Period: Date: Remember When… America in the 1920s-1930s Explanation: Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is a novella set during the time of the Great Depression. It is important to understand the time period, so that the events in the story make better sense. Therefore, we will be conducting a mini research project to learn about what America was like nearly 100 years ago. This project will last three-four class periods: two to research and onetwo to present findings. Goal: Students will be given a subject to research that was relevant to the time period. Using the computers, they will research their subject matter and create a display (poster for CP, General, Emphasis; Honors – Power Point presentation) that they will use to teach the class about their topic. While presentations are taking place, students in the class will take notes over the different subject areas. (Honors students will work alone. CP students will work with a partner, and general and emphasis students will work in groups of three). Research topics: 1. The Stock Market Crash of 1929 2. Herbert Hoover 3. Franklin Delano Roosevelt 4. The New Deal 5. The Dust Bowl 6. The Roaring Twenties 7. California during the Depression (“The California good life”) 8. Hobos 9. Blacks and the Great Depression/Jim Crow Laws 10. Treatment of Women in the 1930s 11. Marathon Dancing Requirements: Your poster needs completely filled with information and pictures about your assigned topics. It needs to include important dates (if applicable), and a thorough explanation of the topic and how it was an important aspect of life in America during the depression. Neatness and creativity (in addition to content) will be graded. Honors – Power Point presentations need to be a minimum of eight (8) slides, which should include information and pictures. Points Possible: 50 points total (40 for poster/Power Point [research], 10 for presentation) Name: Period: Date: NOTE SHEET FOR PRESENTATIONS Directions: Identify four-five important pieces of information about each topic (as provided in the presentations). This will be scored for completion. 1. The Stock Market Crash of 1929 * * * * * 2. Herbert Hoover * * * * * 3. Franklin Delano Roosevelt * * * * * Name: 4. The New Deal * * * * * * 5.
