REAL WORLD RADIO FRIENDS OF THE EARTH INTERNATIONAL INTERNSHIP MONTEVIDEO/URUGUAY REAL WORLD RADIO (RWR) is a multilingual web radio and media project, located in Montevideo, Uruguay and supported by Friends of the Earth International (FoEI). RWR has an environmental focus, distributing information on environmental conflicts, working under the slogan "giving voice to the voiceless”. World Radio airs in three languages: Spanish, English and Portuguese and is looking for an intern for fall 2015 to work in Montevideo with the English production of the radio. ABOUT REAL WORLD RADIO Friends of the Earth International is the largest grassroots environmental network in the world, uniting 70 diverse national member groups and about 5,000 local activist groups. With approximately one million members and supporters around the world, Friends of the Earth International is campaigning on social and environmental issues; questions the economic model and globalization, promoting at the same time solutions that create environmentally sustainable and socially just societies. RWR’s main goal is to create a space where community radios in the world exchanges productions on sustainability and environmental issues. The daily work of Real World Radio focuses on the struggle of the peasant movements and indigenous organizations; human rights actions; the denunciation of power and impact of transnational corporations; the struggle for climate and environmental justice; and the struggle of GMOs and agro fuels among other things. Today, RWR is consolidated as a counter-hegemonic media outlet for activists and grassroots social movements. RESPOSIBILITIES Alternative media production covering environmental issues (in English) – with focus on “giving voice to the voiceless” – including production of audio (podcasts) and text (news articles). News production of Friends of the Earths network’s campaigns and related activities – covering the non-Spanish-speaking part of the world. Assist in the development and production of Real World Radio’s live English alternative media news podcast. Assist in the development and implementation of Real World Radio’s English communication strategies Build awareness of Real World Radio’s mission, vision and values with the general public and target audiences. QUALIFICATION The intern is selected on a competitive basis. The following minimum qualifications are required: Enrollment in a graduate-level degree program in related field such as social science, journalism, or environmental studies. Excellent written and spoken proficiency in English, and excellent spoken proficiency in Spanish. You have an outspoken interest in social and environmental issues. You have the ability to work independently. Commitment to social justice and Real World Radio/Friends of the Earth’s vision and mission. Previous engagement in the Friends of the Earth network is seen as a merit.
