Senate Updates
David

decision coincides with our stand
International student fees – its currently spread around all
Quebec schools. Its been done for management, law,
engineering and science. There is a doubling/tripling of
the international tuition fee.
o The deregulation has been a 10 year policy. They are
pushing for the expansion of this policy to all faculties
o They have a cap on what they contribute to everyone
else
o Issues
 Very high international tuition fees
 There is going to be differential tuition fee among
different faculties
o Josh and David will vote based on their judgment
 Limit the increase in international fees
 Make sure there are proper bursary and loans
o Huge student movement – planning a strike March 21st.
Coincide with other public section sect (St Justine and
CSSS of laval) – student are going to bandwagon
 We cannot strike as a medical student – even
though we are completely against austerity. We
agree with the majority of the points
 We can make a simple badge for the medical
students against Bill 10, 20 and 28, and the cut of
funding to education
 We have done a survey for bill 10 last
semester, but we should get the student
feedback for bill 20 and 28.
 Need to represent our stance at the FMEQ GA
 We should do the referendum during the GA
o Sexual assault policy – MSS is for it in principle
o Mental health – academic policies that are bad for
mental health. Using medicine as a positive example
for other faculties



Leadership session for an entire weekend
None of us at the MSS when we were elected had a boot
camp for the entire council!
 Suggestion:
o Sophie is willing to give the training – with materials
she received at the leadership session we attended
o Very general advice on leadership – we train people to
be great leaders
 Budget:
o The IFMSA retreat was basically free – went to
someone’s house. – to train on how do you manage a
team
o A potluck sleep over?
o Sophie suggest that we do the training and at the end
of the training we bring in the old council
Sophie will be
organizing this
session for the
new council

Structure?
Nebras


Sophie has to organize it
Mid march
More frequent meetings but with a smaller council
o We use these meetings to come up with plans and
ideas and things we want to do
We will have 4 big meetings per year to pass motions
We will do a trial now, and then at our 6th meeting they
will vote on the changes in the constitution (from 6 to 4
meetings)
