UC San Diego Standardized Central Venous Access Curriculum • Required for House Officers that must perform Central Lines during the scope of training • 3 stage training program (must pass each phase before moving on to next) • • • – Online didactic modules – Simulation training – Proctored experiential phase Online Modules – Access 4 part modules at UCSD Learning Center: http://mycourses.ucsd.edu – Type “central line” into search box and click search – The central line “eCourse” should be added to your training schedule – Once complete you can print a completion certificate Simulation Phase – Sign up for a session at Eventbrite: http://ucsd-central-line.eventbrite.com/ – Training and testing in same session – UC San Diego Simulation Center (see map on website) – Bring completion certificate for online modules to the Simulation Center – There will be a brief didactic session – Several stations; simulation practice/testing – When you complete simulation testing you can move to the proctored experience phase Experiential phase – You need to be proctored for 5 lines each site (Subclavian, IJ, Femoral) – Print the Central Line Performance Checklist from the link on the GME website – Hand the checklist to the Proctoring physician to complete while you perform a line – Give completed checklists to your Program Director who will confirm your competence to perform a central line without direct supervision in the New Innovations database
