School Sport South Coast TEACHER OFFICIAL’S RESPONSIBILITIES 1. At all times Managers/ Coaches must display exemplary conduct as a model for students. 2. All areas of QSS Codes of Conduct must be enforced, disseminated and explained by the team officials. Team officials should read the Code of Conduct to the students outlining clearly what their expected behavior would be and remind students that the Responsible Behaviour Plan for Students for their school remains in effect whilst part of the competition. 3. In cases of student misbehavior, i.e. a breach of the Code of Conduct, team officials are to refer to the Procedures for the Investigation and Recording of Misconduct 4. When students are in the Manager’s care, ensure they are supervised to a level that would satisfy a prudent parent/guardian. 5. If team officials are attending other functions or activities, at least one of the officials must, at all times, be available to attend to students in the case of an emergency. A phone contract is essential. 6. When travelling, Managers/Coaches should be seated so they can supervise their team. (When travelling on commercial transport, Managers/ Coaches should ensure that they are seated in the rear-most seat available). Officials should ensure seat belts are worn when available. 7. Ensure billets have team officials’ telephone contact number. 8. Students are to remain under the control of the billeting family parents while not in Managers’/Coaches’ care. When students are being billeted, team officials are to be responsible for the supervision of team members. It is the responsibility of the team officials to exercise duty of care until the appropriate time negotiated with the respective billets. There is an expectation that team officials will be responsible for the majority of the day. 9. Ensure that students abide by the Departmental Sun Safety policy, which stipulates that all students must have suitable protection from the sun in the form of a hat and sunscreen (SPF 15+). 10. All team management are to become familiar with the Student Protection policy as contained in the Policy and Procedures Register SMS-PR-012: Student Protection, and report any concerns they may have about a student to the relevant school principal. 11. Ensure that no team get togethers are arranged outside playing times if any student in the team is being billeted, (i.e. activities at night). The only exception to this is when the State Championship committee has arranged an activity for students. 12. Team officials must be aware of any students with specific needs e.g. anaphylaxis, allergies, disability, mental health difficulties etc., and implement appropriate management strategies. When Managers/ Coaches are responsible for accommodation, e.g. camp situation, caravans etc. the following rules are to be adopted: 1. A pre and post inspection of the accommodation must be carried out in the presence of the person in charge. 2. Managers/Coaches are to supervise to such a level that a prudent parent would be completely satisfied e.g. dress, behaviour, mixed boy/girl activities. 3. Outline the behavioural expectations to the students. 4. Sleeping arrangements should ensure that the girls are completely separate from the boys, and teachers, where possible, are to situate themselves between the two groups. Teachers should ensure that all students are accounted for before retiring themselves. A teacher’s prime duty of care is to the students. Teacher officials are not permitted to take members of his/her own family to a State Championship. Written permission will need to be sought in exceptional circumstances The Manager of the Regional Team has the ultimate authority over that team and any action taken will be the responsibility of the Manager.
