Merced High School Response to Intervention Interventions and Preventions to ensure all students succeed… For all students during 5th period Freshman Advisory Intervention: Designed for Freshmen transition to high school. Purpose/Goal: To assist all entering 9th graders in making a successful transition from junior high to high school. It is an opportunity for students to build social relationships, work on academic goal setting, study skills, help with assignments, and to become familiar with the culture of “Bear Country” – Home of Scholars and Champions . Contact Person: Nancy Edmiston, nedmiston@muhsd.org Link Crew Intervention: Designed to support successful transition to high school. Purpose/Goal: Link Crew is a leadership program designed to assist in a successful transition to high school (attendance, academic success and school involvement). Link Leaders are juniors and seniors who work closely with the freshmen during Freshman Advisory. Link Crew also hosts enrichment activities during 5th period RtI. Contact Person: Marcia Marie Rosson, mrosson@muhsd.org Study Hall/Tutorial Intervention: Designed to support students who are having academic difficulty with homework, test preparation, test retakes, and project support. Purpose/Goal: The purpose of Study Hall is to give support and time to students who have a 2.0-2.9 GPA and need additional study support. The purpose of Tutorial (subject specific) is for those students who have an F grade in any core class. Students work with teachers and mentors to develop better academic understanding and achievement. Purpose/Goal: Mentoring is a leadership program designed to give upper level students the opportunity to provide academic support and personal guidance on a daily basis to underclassmen. Academic Mentors serve as a positive role model and receive special privileges as well as being recognized at graduation with a green chord. Contact Person: Rich Sandoval, rsandoval@muhsd.org Guidance Services Prevention/Intervention: The Merced High School Guidance Department provides a comprehensive program that promotes and enhances academic, personal, social and career development for ALL students, while maintaining a safe and secure learning environment. Purpose/Goal: The purpose of Crisis Counseling is to provide students who are experiencing some type of crisis in their life with immediate counseling. The counseling is done on a very short term basis and students who need more intensive counseling are referred out. Contact Person: Cindy Davis, cdavis@muhsd.org Enrichment Opportunities Intervention: Enrichment provides with learning opportunities that challenge the learner. Students enroll in five week long courses that develop or enrich their individual interests, skills and academic needs. Courses include SAT/AP Exam Prep, extension of content areas that are understudy, and job attainment skills. Purpose/Goal: The goal of Enrichment is to maximize the academic and social-emotional outcomes of students and address high interest topics that align with school curriculum.
