KEY FOCUS PSHE:
Crime and punishment, citizenship and
democracy will be the focus this term. You
will be listening to different points of view
and then making your own decisions based on
the information available to you. You will find
out all bout Women’s Suffragettes, Victorian
punishment system for adults and children
and our law courts and parliament.

Please read the local newspapers
and watch BBC News Round to
see what dilemmas there are in
the news. Discuss these with
your family.
History: crime and punishment through
the ages, in particular the Romans, Tudors
and Victorians. We also have a crime
scene set up in the classroom
representing modern day investigations.
ICT: researching medical and historical
facts. Presenting information in
persuasive poster about a cause that is
important to you.
RE: Dilemmas faced by Jesus and other
biblical stories and how they can impact
on your choices today.
To read a range of stories with dilemmas
in them and evaluate the character’s
choices. To role play, write letters in role
and write your own story with a
dilemma. Books will include: The
Suitcase Kid, The Balaclava Story, Sam’s
Duck and There’s a Boy in the Girls’
Bathroom.
VISITS OR VISITORS:
In to talk about the importance of the law and
community service we hope to have a local
policeman and two Oxfordshire magistrates.
Also Dr Lamb to explain the functions of your
heart and circulatory system. Mr Wood will
hopefully be in to talk to you about voting and
fair representation.
HOMEWORK PROJECT DETAILS:
Crime and punishment in a particular period,
alternatively find out about a famous crime or
criminal. What about a form of punishment which
we no longer use such as transportation – you could
look at where and how criminals were transported
and what kinds of crimes they had committed? You
may want to find out more about the law courts and
how they work, perhaps including a model or a plan
of the court. Your homework project is due on by
Wednesday 21st October 2015.
