HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY We will be completing a study of crime and punishment since 1066 which will include: Medieval and Victorian punishments Debates regarding Robin Hood and other famous villains Looking at the creation of the police force and their role in modern day society Medieval, Tudor, Roman and Saxon crimes and punishments At home you could visit the local library to see what you can find out about crime and punishment in the past. Finding articles in old newspapers would also be useful. Local museums would also be a good place to start. Search for ‘Horrible Histories’ online! SPECIAL EVENTS AND VISITORS ART AND DESIGN Children will have the opportunity to develop a sketchbook. Children will be researching and recreating pieces of artwork in the style of Chuck Close. With the help of a special guest the children will have the opportunity to create large scale artwork to enhance our school environment. At home the children can investigate art in the local community, maybe taking some photographs or sketching what they see. Crime and Punishment Year 5/6 Home Activities to Support Your Child’s Learning EDUCATIONAL VISITS/FAMILY DAYS OUT Galleries of Justice Nottingham http://www.galleriesofjustice.org.uk/ The classes will have the opportunity to explore crime and punishment across various times in history. There will be actors in role to enhance the children’s learning. To support speaking and listening targets, please encourage your child to discuss the trip on our return, focussing on similarities and differences between crime and punishment in the past and today. SCIENCE Horowitz Class: Earth, Sun and Moon and Forces. Strong Class: Earth, Sun and Moon, Sound and Light. King-Smith Class: Sound and Light. This is a great opportunity for a trip to Think Tank or a chance to make some junk model musical instruments to experiment with. Question and answer session with the local Constabulary Visit by a local artist, opportunity to create large scale modern pieces of art. PSHE THEMES COMPUTING The new national curriculum will give the children the chance to program using espresso as well as using the internet for research The children will be working within e-safety guidelines when using ICT. New Beginnings: Children will be exploring rules within society and in their environment. They will learn about challenges and taking responsibility in a positive and empowering manner. News programmes, such as BBC Newsround, will help the children to understand world issues that may affect them. RE CLASS ASSEMBLY The children will have the opportunity to discuss their personal beliefs and develop their own personal creed.
