Research Fellowships in Molecular Plant Pathology and Plant
Pathology
Massey University in partnership with the Bio-Protection Research Centre at Lincoln
University are seeking to appoint two outstanding young scientists to provide leadership in
research and teaching of molecular plant pathology and plant pathology within the College
of Sciences and to establish strong national and international research linkages.
The Bio-Protection Research Centre has a strong international reputation in plant
biocontrol, biosecurity and bioprotection. Massey University is one of four partners in this
National Centre of Excellence. The College of Sciences at Massey University has outstanding
research facilities including the Manawatu Microscopy & Imaging Centre, the Massey
Genome Service and the Centre for Structural Biology.
Opportunities for collaborative research exist with other Institutes within the College as well
as with the neighbouring Crown Research Institutes of AgResearch and Plant & Food.
These are exciting and well funded positions to join successful research teams of scientists
at Massey University and within the The Bio-Protection Research Centre. Research
excellence and emerging scientific leadership are the primary criteria for appointment.
The appointees will be scientists of national research standing with emerging potential to
provide leadership in molecular plant pathology or plant pathology within New Zealand.
Research experience at the intersection of plant pathology and genomics is desirable. An
ability to establish a national research programme on a microorganism of New Zealand
significance would be an advantage as this would provide greater connectivity with the
international research community and enhance international collaboration and funding
opportunities.
The appointees will become key Centre researchers with the majority of their research
activities aligned to the Centre. The appointees would be expected to take a research
leadership role within the Centre and considerably strengthen the involvement of Massey
University as a partner institute in the Centre. As principal investigators within the Centre
the appointees will be eligible for Centre funds including projects, travel, summer
scholarships and new initiatives.
The appointees would be expected to assist in the development of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research programme in Plant Pathology at Massey University and
explore opportunties for joint post graduate programmes with Lincoln University. The
appointees would be expected to increase the profile of plant pathology research and
services within the Agri-Food portfolio of Massey University.
