Dominican Literacy Center 260 Vermont Ave, Aurora, IL 60505 October 7, 2013 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Nuns detail Aurora Dominican Literacy Center at anti-racism conference AURORA—Leaders of Aurora’s Dominican Literacy Center profiled the DLC at the Springfield Dominican Anti-Racism Team’s (SDART) 12th fall meeting in Springfield on Oct. 19. Reporting the DLC’s history and mission were Sisters Kathleen Ryan, Ann Clennon and Jane Ann Beckman, co-leaders of the DLC. Additionally, the trio served on a panel that discussed current immigration topics. SDART invited leaders of Dominican literacy centers in Aurora and Melrose Park to share how they are serving immigrant women. The Aurora center, at 260 Vermont Ave., provides free, personalized tutoring in reading, writing and speaking English to Aurora immigrant women. The DLC also offers classes to prepare immigrant men and women to take the U.S. citizenship test. SDART is an anti-racist institution accountable to people of color in mutual relationships based on respect, equality and justice. As a publicly identified anti-racist congregation, it works toward an inclusive and anti-racist church and world.
