COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
IEW Bible Heroes (2nd – 4th grade) Tuition: $270/year or $35 per month. Homework: 30 minutes per day
Year long class – 28 weeks – Length 55 minutes – min. students (6), max students (14)
The Bible Heroes lessons are filled with true stories of great men and women of the Bible for your students
to read and write about. They are people your students can admire because they showed traits such as
goodness, faith, courage, love, humility, and thankfulness. In these lessons your student will write exciting
stories, reports, and creative essays. They will also enjoy a variety of activities, games, and vocabulary
words that will help them write with structure and style.
Curriculum: IEW Bible Heroes by Lori Verstegen
($30 registration fee includes the IEW Bible Heroes, student workbook.)
IEW Medieval History-Based Writing Lessons (4th – 6th grade) Tuition: $360/year or $40 per month
Homework: 30 minutes per day
Year long class – 32 weeks – Length 55 minutes – min. students (6), max students (14)
Learn writing and vocabulary based on the Middle Ages using the IEW (Institute for Excellence for
Writing) method of style and structure. These lessons acquaint learners with Charlemagne, the Vikings,
William the Conqueror, Knighthood, the Renaissance, and more.
Curriculum: Medieval History-Based Writing Lessons, 3rd edition by Lori Verstegen
($30 registration fee includes the IEW Medieval History-Based Writing Lessons, student workbook.)
Beginning Composition: IEW Writing/Grammar/Literature (7th-9th grade) Tuition: $360/year or $40 per
month. Homework: 1 ½ hr. per day
Year long class – 32 weeks – Length 1:25 hr. – min. students (6), max students (14)
This academically rigorous class is a complete English course, which includes reading, writing, and
grammar. Homework will consist of reading and answering literature questions, writing assignments, and
grammar pages. Students will learn to write by going through the nine units of structure and style as
presented in the IEW program. Novels assigned provide a variety of classic selections and important
authors with an emphasis on the elements of literature. Grammar will be reinforced using Easy Grammar:
Ultimate Series: 180 Daily Teaching Lessons.
Easy Grammar Ultimate Series: 180 Daily Teaching Lessons: Grade 8 by Wanda C. Phillips, Ed.D.
Teacher’s Edition includes student pages with answer key in the back.

Intermediate Composition: IEW Writing/Vocabulary/Literature (8th/9th grade) Tuition: $360/year or $40 per
month. Homework: 1 ½ hr. per day
Year long class – 32 weeks – Length 55 minutes – min. students (6), max students (14)
*IEW experience preferred
This is an academically rigorous class.
This course will emphasize literature and the foundations of essay writing using the IEW method.
Homework will consist of reading and answering literature questions, writing assignments, and vocabulary
assignments. Students will expand on previous IEW units to include the basic 5-paragraph essay, Research
Report writing, narrative stories, writing from pictures, creative writing, and critique writing. Addition
essay types covered: cause and effect, descriptive, persuasive, expository, compare and contrast, definition,
example, and literary analysis.

Novels: The Witch of Blackbird Pond, Johnny Tremain, Tom Sawyer, True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle,

World Literature and Composition (9th-12th grade) Tuition: $405/year or $45 per month
Homework: 1 ½ hr. per day
Year long class – 32 weeks – Length 1:25 hr. – min. student (6), max students (14)
Windows to the World: An Introduction to Literary Analysis is the foundation of this class. This high school
course will emphasize literature and college preparation essay writing using the MLA format. Essay types
covered: Descriptive, Argumentative/Persuasive, Expository, Definition, Reflective/Narrative, Cause and
Effect, Compare and Contrast, and Literary Analysis. Windows to the World: An Introduction to Literary
Analysis by Lesha Myers takes students through 15 units as they delve into the world of literary analysis.
A variety of selections/short stories and authors will be read throughout. Units include ~ Annotation,
Allusions, Plot & Suspense, Literary Analysis Essays, The Writer’s Toolbox, Characterization, Symbolism
& Emphasis, Theme & Worldview, Setting, Imagery, Point of View, Tone, and Irony. In addition students
will study vocabulary words and roots using Vocabulary from Classical Roots: Book C.
