Grammar and Punctuation revisited
Details of the course:
Following the success of last year’s popular ‘Getting to Grips with Grammar’ workshops,
we’re revisiting the topic for all those who missed out. This hands-on, half-day session will
explore the terminology we use to teach grammar, as well as introducing practical ways of
making it relevant to children’s learning. The workshop is valuable for all teachers, English
subject specialists and teaching assistants looking to build their confidence and expertise in
supporting children’s use and understanding of grammar.
This half-day workshop will:



Clarify grammatical terminology and how to help children understand it
Provide practical ideas and approaches to use in the classroom
Build confidence in your subject knowledge and teaching of grammar
Details of the trainer:
Mary Hopper is an Independent Literacy Consultant and self-confessed English geek! From
Old English runes to modern classroom practice, Mary draws on many years’ experience of
developing children’s mastery of the language. As both a teacher and a Local Authority
Advisor, Mary has specialised in staff development, creating top-quality training that’s rooted
in classroom practice. She now supports schools and charities to develop children’s English
through her company Three Bears Literacy. Mary is also the author of teacher resources
‘Outdoor Literacy’ and ‘It’s a Case of Grammar!’, and a forthcoming book, ‘Unlocking
Speaking and Listening in Every Child’.
