Your are now ready to practice and demonstrate mastery of the selected skills that have been
identified (Attachment A). There are 3 topical areas that one must have mastered prior to starting
the PreCalculus and AP Calculus courses at Harlan High School. The areas are:
1. Functions
2. Trigonometry
3. Basic Geometry
In attachment A, the specific skills are listed that you are to demonstrate mastery prior to the
beginning of September 2012. Look them over before proceeding.
Demonstrating mastery is done in this order (Note: refer to screen captures below).:
a) Enter the name of the skill from Attachment A (e.g., Introduction to Functions). Enter it at
the top of the screen in the box “Search for a video or topic”.

(continued)
b) Select to watch a video or to go straight to practice. It is through practice that you
demonstrate proficiency. Hence, only watch the related video if you feel the need to review
the skill first. You may go directly to demonstrating mastery by clicking “Practice this
concept”. But beware, if you make a mistake during practice it takes you back a few steps and
you have to practice more (i.e., do more problems) before mastery is accomplished. My
suggestion would be to go to “practice this concept” but upon your first error go back and
watch the video. You are responsible and must make the decision and take ownership of the
process.

c) It is self explantory but… enter your answer, then depress “Check Answer”.

d) When you have demonstrated mastery the following screen appears.
e) CONGRATULATIONS! When you see a screen similar to the above, you have successfully
demonstrated mastery of a skill and it is time to go to another from our list. In the example
above, the skill was “Limits 1”.
f) You are now ready to move on to the next skill.
