To: Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs From: Thomas L. Keon Chancellor Purdue University Calumet James B. Dworkin Chancellor Purdue University North Central Date: May 5, 2014 RE: Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs and Provost The extended search committee which included participation from both campuses met to discuss the search for the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and provided us with the following: “At this point in time, there should be no appointment of a single VCAA/Provost responsible for academic affairs on both campuses. Rather, each campus should for the time being maintain a position of one VCAA on each campus. This structure should continue until such time as: first, a position description for a ‘permanent’ VCAA/Provost, responsible for academic affairs on both campuses, can be fully developed; and second, a ‘permanent’ Chancellor position responsible for both campuses, is established and filled.” We have discussed the committee’s suggestion and find it to be quite sound. During the transition to a unified university, Dr. Karen Schmid will remain as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs of the North Central Campus. Dr. Peggy Gerard was asked to continue as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost of the Calumet Campus. These two appointments will remain in effect until a Chancellor of the unified university establishes a process to select a person to oversee Academic Affairs for the newly formed university.
