STARCROSS PRIMARY SCHOOL NEW ROAD, STARCROSS Tel: (01626) 890454 Fax: (01626) 891663 Email: admin@starcross-primary.devon.sch.uk 9th January 2015 Hello everyone, and a happy new year to you all. I hope that you had a fantastic break and were able to have some time together to enjoy the time off. Well, we are back now, and we are all extremely happy to see the children back, ready for work and behaving very well indeed. We’ve been busy showing prospective parents around, and the school numbers are beginning to rise very quickly. We are very popular at the moment, and it’s great that I am able to say that to you all. We are, after all, a very happy school and we are receiving many lovely reports from prospective parents of positive recommendations. Many thanks for that. Anyway, please read on for more information, and welcome back once more. MATHS GAMES This is advance warning that the maths games will be coming home as of this week. Many thanks, and please remember to take very good care of them as someone else will be using them immediately after you have finished with them. CAR PARK There are still some parents trying to use the school car park at the beginning of the school day. Please be warned that these gates will now be closed at the start of the school day, and that alternative parking is available close to the school grounds. There is also a car park only fifty metres away that parents may use. CHRISTMAS SHOW If you haven’t seen them yet, them please take a minute to look at the photographs outside the school hall of the Christmas show last term. They are delightful. It truly was a magical time, and the children all looked wonderful whilst performing. Thanks for your support on this. FRENCH OUTREACH We would like to announce that after the success of our Japanese classes, some selected Key Stage 2 children have started French classes from today. We are delighted that they have this opportunity courtesy of the Dawlish Learning Partnership and Dawlish Community College, and this will not be the last fantastic opportunity for children this term. Stay tuned. 1 PE KITS I unfortunately had to speak to 6 children in school without PE kits this week, and all from the same class. They were able to bring in their kits the following day, but I would like to reiterate that all children need their kit in school for their allotted days. PE is not optional, and apart from being great fun, is part of our provision towards well-being, health and fitness for life. Please do not forget to remind your child about their kit, as you will be contacted if they do not have it in school. PARENTS IN SCHOOL BUILDING Apart from sandpipers class, there should be no parents inside the school building in the morning please. All parents from Years 1-6 should leave their child in the playground at 8.50a.m. If parents wish to speak to teachers, then please make an appointment via the school office, or please approach the teacher at the end of the school day. The safeguarding of the children is extremely important to us, and this could be compromised if parents enter the school building without permission at the busy start to the day. Thanks. SCHOOL MEAL CENSUS Can all parents and carers please read the letter attached to this week’s newsletter, as there is important information of the school dinner census that took place last year. In order to receive as much money from the government as possible, we need as many children as possible to eat a school dinner next week (THURSDAY). A special letter explaining the day, plus a special menu, is attached. Please help by giving your child a school dinner if possible, as we will receive more funding as a result. Many thanks. PTFA Remember, numbers are now rising for the PTFA but we still need MORE MEMBERS. Please contact Emma Wheeler (school site manager and PTFA chair) for more information. From next week, the dates of the year’s meetings will appear on the school’s calendar pages. VOLUNTEER HELPERS We are always on the look-out for parents or carers who would like to help out at school, whether donating some time to keeping the library tidy, or listening to readers, or other valuable services that help things to tick over in school. If you are interested in donating some time, then please contact us at school, and we will get back to you to arrange a chat about how you could help. Thanks. SCHOOL PLACES Remember, the deadline for admissions for next September is 15th January. Please make sure your application is in by then if you want to be in with a chance of receiving a place for your child in Reception in September. 2 TERM DATES Dates 2014 / 15 Spring Term 2015 Tuesday 6th January – Friday, 27th March inclusive Monday, 16th February – Friday 20th February – Half Term Break Last day for the children is Friday, 27th March Summer Term 2015 Monday, 13th April – Tuesday, 21st July inclusive Monday, 25th May – Friday 29th May – Half Term Break Last day for the children is Tuesday, 21st July.
