MONDAY:
Students will present their rock projects to the class. – Time TBD
Students will partake in a quick density demonstration. Students will discuss the principals of density.
Students will begin working on a density calculations worksheet in class.
No Homework
TUESDAY:
All Classes: Earth’s Layers:
Students will read chapter 1, section 1 in the “Changing Earth” text (pp 9-13).
Students will answer questions 1,2,4, and 5 on page 13.
In their textbooks, students will write the following vocabulary terms in their notebooks:
Inner Core, Outer Core, Mantle, Crust, lithosphere, asthenosphere.
Students will write the definition in their own words, describe the contents of each layer, and make a
sketch showing each layer within the Earth.
Homework: Students will complete page 13 questions and their vocabulary assignment.
WEDNESDAY:
Where is Lystrosaurus paper: Students will plot data on fossil locations on several prehistoric creatures.
Students will use this information to derive some ideas on how these creatures are found in the
locations they were found in.
No Homework
Advanced:
Consortium of the Geologists Activity:
Students will make observations on data collected about earthquakes, fossil records, and geological
records to try to piece together a theory about Earth movements.
No homework
THURSDAY:
Periods 3-5:
Students will finish their Lystrosaurus worksheet.
Students will complete a continental cut out paper. Students will try to organize the continents to fit as
they did in Pangaea.
Homework: Students will complete a continental cutout paper
Advanced:
Consortium of the Geologists part II: Students will construct a claim and support it with evidence from
their lab to piece together their theory. Finally, they will provide some reasoning for their paper.
Students will complete their consortium paper and write a CER on Earth’s movements.
FRIDAY:
Students will complete several short labs in class. No Homework!!
