POST:
CHIEF DIRECTOR: POLICY DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION (NDT55/2012)
SALARY:
Remuneration package of R872 214.00 per annum (all-inclusive salary package). The remuneration
package includes a basic salary (60% of package), State’s contribution to the Government Employee
Pension Fund (13% of basic salary) and a flexible portion which can be structured according to the
individual’s personal needs.

Pretoria
REQUIREMENTS:
A recognised relevant 3-year qualification or an equivalent qualification plus extensive experience in a
senior management position. Postgraduate qualification in management will be an advantage. The
following qualities will be to the candidate’s advantage: Relevant experience in public policy development,
implementation, monitoring and evaluation; development of statuses, development of norms and
standards; strategic stakeholder relations management; development and implementation of sector
strategies; and intergovernmental programme co-ordination.
Candidate Profile: Dynamic leader with proven strategic management and leadership skills. Experience in
management of human resources, financial resources, projects and programmes. Good communication
skills (verbal and written). Good interpersonal, co-ordination and stakeholder liaison skills. Clear
understanding of the Tourism sector in South Africa and globally. Knowledge of the policy environment
within which tourism operates is critical. Client orientated. Candidates are expected to be familiar with the
Public Service environment.
DUTIES:
Provide overall strategic management and leadership to the Chief Directorate: Policy Development and
Evaluation. Manage the implementation of the National Tourism Sector Strategy (NTSS). Coordinate
development and implementation of responsible tourism strategies. Ensure effective implementation of BBBEE Act within the tourism sector. Lead the development and implementation of policy, regulations,
norms and standards within the tourism sector. Monitor and evaluate trends within the sector. Conduct
impact assessments on tourism sector initiatives. Manage stakeholder relations and facilitate
intergovernmental coordination. Oversee general administration and management of processes for the
Chief Directorate.
