11th Annual Women of Achievement Awards
Nomination Form
DePaul Community Resources is pleased to announce that the 11th Annual Women of Achievement Awards will
take place on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the Sheraton Roanoke Hotel and Conference Center. The Women of
Achievement Awards serve as a way to recognize women who have made significant contributions to our
community through their educational achievements, leadership and volunteer activities.
Nominees for this event come from diverse segments of our community, but they share a dedication and
commitment to improving the quality of life for all of us.
DePaul Community Resources will honor women for their achievements in twelve categories:




Arts
Business
Education
Equality




Foster Parenting
Government / Politics
Health / Science
Human Relations




Law
Religion
Social Services
Volunteerism
Nominee Criteria
 The geographical area for nominees includes the Roanoke Valley, New River Valley and the Lynchburg area.
Nominees must reside in one of the following cities or counties: Amherst County, Appomattox County,
Bedford County, Botetourt County, Campbell County, City of Bedford, City of Lynchburg, City of Radford,
City of Salem, Craig County, Floyd County, Franklin County, Giles County, Montgomery County, Pulaski
County, Roanoke City, Roanoke County, Town of Vinton.
 The nominee exhibits outstanding leadership skills.
 The nominee makes a significant impact on the community through her accomplishments.
 The nominee enhances community life through volunteer and/or professional activities.
 The nominee meets the category definition as set forth in the Nomination Categories.
Instructions for Submitting an Application
 Nomination forms must be printed or typed. Size 10 font or larger, maximum 5 pages (does not apply to
letters of support, articles, etc.)
 Applications must be completed in full; incomplete applications will not be considered
 A candidate may be nominated for more than one category; however, please be sure that the appropriate
categories on Page 1 of the nomination form are checked.
 Collaboration by two or more people for individual nominations is acceptable and encouraged to ensure an
accurate and well-rounded representation of the nominee. Nominators remain anonymous.
Nomination Deadline
All nominations must be received by Thursday, August 1, 2013. Nominations can be mailed, emailed or faxed.

Achievement Awards
Nomination Categories
Arts - Artist, writer, graphic artist, performing artist, leader in the fine arts and/or a significant supporter of the
Arts who is committed to enhancing and increasing the community’s access to the Arts.
Business - Business woman/owner who demonstrates success and leadership in her field, empowers
employees and is innovative in her management style and exhibits commitment to the community.
Education - Professional or volunteer educator at any level who exemplifies dedication to education, innovative
abilities and commitment to the vital role educators play in our world and who demonstrates success in
having a positive lasting impact on those she has taught.
Equality – A woman whose career or volunteer activities demonstrate an exceptional commitment and
contribution toward furthering equality and racial harmony.
Foster Parenting – Foster or adoptive mother or care provider who has made a positive impact by opening her
home to individuals needing a safe and nurturing place to live, thereby enhancing the quality of life for
those individuals.
Government / Politics - Elected public official, lobbyist, advocate or government employee who contributes to
the betterment of local, regional, state or national government and who helps build bridges between the
private and public sector, thereby enhancing the quality of life for all members of the community.
Health / Science - Scientific or health field professional who has achieved distinction in her field for her
scientific, medical, or humanitarian contributions and thereby has enhanced the quality of life for
humanity.
Human Relations - A woman whose career or life experience may be associated with any category but whose
impact has been on the betterment of the community, and enhancement of the quality of life of those with
whom she is associated.
Law – Lawyer, Paralegal, Judge, or any member of the Law Enforcement community whose expertise and
responsibilities have had a positive impact on the community.
Religion - Ordained or lay person whose life has been dedicated to enriching the spiritual lives of those she
serves and who has had an impact, not only on her immediate community she is serving, but throughout
the area, so that her service enhances the quality of life for many.
Social Services –A woman from the Social Services field who demonstrates leadership, success and integrity,
and who has made a significant impact not only on the lives of those she serves but also in her community.
Volunteerism - A woman whose contributions to the area through voluntarily offering her time and experience
have significantly affected the arts, social services, government, education or other areas and has thereby
improved the quality of life for many.
