San Diego United will have a new face on its staff for the 2014-2015 season and for the future! San Diego United would like to welcome Kyle Hagenburger as the club's College Coordinator. In this newly formed position Kyle will be responsible for increasing the exposure and college contacts with our teams. While working with Sami Nedjar on expanding the outreach of the San Diego United College Prep Program, Kyle will be the link between college coaches and our club players. Kyle's goal for the San Diego United players and parents is to educate the players and families on the process of finding a good fit for each student athlete who has the desire to seek an opportunity at the college level. He is excited about this role with San Diego United due to his passion for helping student athletes seek educational and athletic opportunities that will be a good fit – academics as well as athletics – for each individual player at the next level. " Kyle has a fantastic understanding that each individual player will be unique in their experience through the college placement process, academically and athletically. Kyle's passion and knowledge to help our student athletes gain an understanding of the vast opportunities that are available to their specific needs will be an asset to San Diego United and the players coming through the program. In addition Kyle working with Sami Nedjar on the College Prep Program will be exciting for the club as this part of the program continues to grow and be tailored to the needs of our players." (Jason Heth) Kyle has established working relationships with local and regional schools and has been promoting our older teams and players for their Spring Showcase Tournaments. The entire college prep program will be unveiled later this spring! A bit about Kyle: He played college soccer at Redlands and began his coaching career at 20 years old as the Assistant Varsity Coach at his high school alma mater Saint Augustine, where he helped lead the Saints to their CIF Championship victories in 2003 and 2006. While at Saints Kyle worked with many players that went on to play college soccer. Kyle even had the pleasure of coaching a future MLS player, Servando Carrasco (Houston Dynamo). After six years at Saints, Kyle moved to New York City and took a position as a high school teacher at North Star Academy, where he reignited the failing soccer program before returning home to San Diego. Upon his move home to San Diego, Kyle took a teaching position at King-Chavez Community High School, a brand new charter high school in its first year of operation. Kyle founded and directed a brand new soccer program at King-Chavez, leading his Boys Varsity team to three out of three Frontier League Championships and ending their 2012-2013 season with an undefeated record. Kyle assisted five of the first graduating varsity student-athletes through the college scholarship process, each being the first in their family to go to college; and after just four years, the King-Chavez Vaqueros have a fully functioning high school soccer program with four legitimately competitive teams. Kyle was a long time coach at Crusaders Soccer Club (2003-2011) and Albion SC (2011-2012) prior to joining United. Kyle is now the Assistant Coach of the men’s soccer team at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, where they won the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference for the second consecutive year and the new Director and Boys Varsity Head Coach at Crawford High School in San Diego, reaching the CIF Final in 2014. Kyle holds a National D license and will be working with two teams here at United.
