2015 “Astonishing Ag Articles” Art Contest Sponsored by South Dakota Ag in the Classroom & South Dakota Value Added Agriculture Development Center Contest rules, regulations and guidelines: 1. Open to any 3rd and 4th grade student in state of South Dakota 2. The theme for the art contest is “Astonishing Ag Articles”. The focus should be on non-food items that are made from any commodity grown in South Dakota, such as corn, wheat, soybeans, cattle, sheep, pork, sunflowers, etc. 3. Artists can use any one size piece of paper up to legal size (up to 8.5”x14”). White or colored paper is acceptable. 4. Art work must be hand-drawn, colored or painted only. No computer graphics, cut-outs, stickers, or animated images are allowed. No name brands displayed anywhere on drawings. 5. Art work must include a representation of the source the item comes from (crop, animal) as well as the finished product. 6. Entry forms (available at www.agclassroom.org/sd or www.sdvalueadded.coop/index.php/events) must be included with each drawing. In addition, please include the artist’s name, grade, school, and teacher’s name, address, email and phone number on the reverse side of the drawing. 7. Entry and Judging Procedures: o Entries must be dropped off at the South Dakota State Fair Day Sponsor tent (Value Added Ag Tent) next to the Women’s Building and are due by 1pm, Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015, to be eligible. Alternatively, if artists are not going to be at the SD State Fair, entries can be scanned as a PDF file and emailed to sdagclassroom@yahoo.com by 12pm, Sept. 2, 2015. They will be printed onto white paper and transported to the fair for judging the following day. Late emailed entries will not be considered. o Judges will narrow down all entries to the top 5 finalists. The winner will be determined by popular vote during the ice cream social in the day sponsor tent at 3pm. 1 winner per grade will be selected. 8. Winning entries will be on display in the FFA animal nursery for the duration of the State Fair. 9. Classrooms that have 5 or more students per classroom participate will receive a watermelon feed on date to be determined by the teacher and the sponsors before September 30, 2015.
