UND Student Senate SR 1112-06 Senate Resolution To: The Student Senate of the University of North Dakota Authors: Jennifer Vetter, Off-Campus Senator; Jacob Gapp, Off-Campus Senator Sponsors: 2 CC: Logan Fletcher - Student Body President, Eric Watne - Student Body Vice President, Cassie Gerhardt - Student Government Advisor, Dr. Robert Kelley – President of the University of North Dakota, The President’s Cabinet – the University of North Dakota, The North Dakota State Board of Education, The North Dakota Student Association Date: [Enter date of when the bill/resolution will be brought to Senate] Re: State Board of Higher Education 3-Tier Proposal Stance Whereas, There is too much variance in the sample size in the state of North Dakota for calculating a student’s skills and merits for entrance into post-secondary education due to extremely small and large class sizes, and 4 Whereas, Many smaller high schools in North Dakota are not able to offer many of the recommended classes and eventually “preferred courses” for admission into post-secondary schools, and 6 Whereas, The proposed plan for a per-credit tuition system would be detrimental to the degree progression of students in institutions like the University of North Dakota in which students pay for up to twelve credit hours and then do not have to pay for additional credit hours until after they exceed 21 credit hours, and 8 10 Whereas, Standardization of course curriculum, numbering, and naming across the NDUS is first vital to implementation of a system like this, and 12 Whereas, It is felt that more research and time is needed before the currently set time of implementation, and 14 Therefore, be it resolved that the University of North Dakota Student Senate, the representative body of our campus’s students, opposes the 3-tier proposal plan as it stands, and 16 Therefore, be it further resolved that the Student Senate requests that the listed issues are resolved before systematic implementation, and 18 Therefore, be it furthest resolved the Student Senate calls for a delay in the timeline for implementation of the 3-tier plan for additional research and changes to the current proposal.
