POSITION TITLE: Associate Dean

WORKING TITLE: Associate Dean for Academic and Resource Planning

Department: Graduate School of Education

Reports to: Dean

FLSA: Exempt (not eligible for overtime)

Schedule: Full-time

JOB TITLE SUMMARY:

Reporting directly to the Dean, the Associate Dean for Academic and Resource planning provides hands-on leadership within GSOE for: assessment tied to continuous improvement and student success; strategic business modeling of enrollment and revenue patterns; development of new and innovative curricular designs and delivery models. In addition, this position provides leadership for the three GSOE Centers for Excellence ( Reading Recovery/Literacy

Collaborative; Special Education; Mathematics), and for our partnership with Urban Teacher Center. The Associate

Dean will also coordinate internally and work collaboratively with Enrollment Management on the new online partnership. All tasks include elements of strategic thinking, operational problem-solving, and the development and implementation of actionable sequences of activity. A key member of the GSOE Management Team, the position will also work with Division Directors on issues of both curriculum and operations, with particular attention to altering academic infrastructures that impede new and more effective designs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assessment

Provide leadership to the GSOE Assessment Team

Ensure the continued implementation and improvement of the Unified Assessment System that drives program improvement for all University educator and counseling program options

Support Division Directors’ use of data for program improvement

Provide direction and support for the Associate Director for Assessment and Accreditation as well as the

Project Coordinator for e-portfolio

Budget

Model business plans for enrollment and revenue generation based on strategic opportunities

Prepare yearly budgets and subsequent adjustments throughout the fiscal year, with support from the

Senior Budget Analyst

Collaborate with Division Directors in assembling their budgets

Enrollment

Collaborate with Enrollment Management to model enrollment projections

Provide leadership to off campus operations, both national and regional

Provide strategic leadership to GSOE web content based on enrollment strategies

Scan educational field for new market opportunities

Act as critical linkage between online vender and GSOE leadership and faculty to insure effective implementation of program offerings

Centers/Urban Teacher Center

Supervise the directors of the three Centers for Excellence, providing leadership and guidance as each

Center works to fulfill its mission

Ensure operational support, innovative problem-solving and advocacy for the Centers, both within GSOE and the University

Work directly with our Urban Teacher Center partners on operational challenges and planning for scaleup. The Urban Teacher Center is an innovative, multi-year preparation program that partners with

Lesley to prepare k-12 teachers to work in inner-city schools in Baltimore, MD and Washington, D.C.

Curriculum

Where designated by the Dean, facilitate faculty collaboration on innovative program designs

Provide managerial and operational support for those planning teams

Act as lead problem-solver for operational barriers uncovered by new designs

Model new revenue and expense parameters for new designs

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Earned terminal degree from a regionally accredited university

Teaching experience in the academy

Experience in educational administration at the school, district or university level involving both budgets and operations

Experience conducting educational research, analyzing complex data sets, and writing quantitative and narrative reports that can be used to develop systems that support institutional decision-making

Understanding of the pre-K-12 education marketplace

Familiarity with developing and implementing new academic degree/certificate programs

Understanding of the inner organizational workings of a university

Demonstrated high energy level and track record of taking a hands-on approach to solving problems effectively

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty and administrators from diverse offices to achieve institutional goals

Ability to function effectively in a data-informed management environment

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Mastery of technology and software to facilitate administrative, instructional, and research processes

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience developing innovative program designs or delivery modes (e.g. on-line, hybrid, low-residency, self-design)

Experience in national accreditation reviews

SCOPE OF INDEPENDENT ACTION:

Makes recommendations on division and university-wide policy

Consults with Dean or other senior managers regarding unusual problems
