VISIT TO NEWBURY RDA BY
HRH PRINCESS ANNE
WEDNESDAY 13TH JUNE
Newbury RDA were honoured to host a visit from HRH Princess Anne to Wyld
Court on Wednesday, 13th June.
After a great deal of hard work by our Volunteer Helpers, Cathy, Chris and a
work party from Baxter’s Healthcare, the stables and paddocks looked
immaculate and we were proud to receive dignitaries including Anne Coney from
RDA Southern Region, Frances Lochrane of Lambourne RDA, Jacqui Letsome
from the Newbury Volunteer Bureau, Richard Griffiths-Jones from the Lord
Lieutenant’s office, Mr and Mrs Charles Brims (High Sheriff of Berkshire).
We were lucky to have a beautiful sunny day after days of rain.
Princess Anne enjoyed watching a class of riders from the Speech and Language
Resource Unit at Winchcombe school who performed a musical ride and then
demonstrated the Countryside Challenge. The Princess presented rosettes to the
children and also a special rosette to Charlie, our longest serving pony.
Many volunteers came up for the day, both to help and to enjoy a picnic in the
sunshine.
Princess Anne also presented Long Service Awards to some of our Volunteers:
Linda Benson, Marilyn Goss, Trish Dewe-Mathews, Georgie Woods, Penny Norris,
Sallie Ingrams, Henry Traill, Diana Ash, Sara Rabl, Amanda Cook, Sheila Tremaine
and Cathy Edwards.
Princess Anne was then invited to cut the magnificent Union Jack meringue cake
made by Penny Norris to celebrate the visit and to mark the beginning of
celebrations for the 40th anniversary of Newbury RDA.
The day drew to a
close as the Royal
Party left in a
helicopter and we
enjoyed tea and
delicious cakes made
by our volunteers.
Thanks to everyone
who contributed to
this happy occasion.
