MINUTES OF LAST
MEETING

a true record.
MATTERS ARISING
Weston Park Foundation
The resubmission of this application would be considered later on the
agenda.
Glencoe Museum
Trustees noted that the grant offer to the Glencoe Museum had not been
made as, following the Director’s timely visit to Glencoe, she realised
that thatch was heather and that the building was almost certainly listed
neither of which had been revealed by the application or applicants.
David Verey suggested that as a general rule projects that were
recommended for support should be visited.
The Chairman requested that a ‘checklist’ be drawn up of assessment
questions for all applications that were put forward to Trustees.
St Stephen’s House,
Oxford
Trustees noted that St Stephen’s House was now drawing up a project
plan for the full repair and restoration of the church ceiling and that it
intended to ask the Cowley Fathers for a contribution.
Pilgrim Trust Website
Approval was given for a budget of up to £19,000 for the development
of the new Pilgrim Trust website.
Book 1 Agenda item 2
THE PILGRIM TRUST
The Director invited Trustees to participate in the development of the
website. Jamie Fergusson and Tim Knox agreed to take part and Mr
Knox volunteered the advice of the Soane Museum’s web master.
Trustees expressed the hope that the website might do more to show the
history of the Pilgrim Trust and some of the fascinating and ground
breaking projects it had supported in the past. In particular, Trustees
mentioned the Recording Britain project. The Director said she had, for
some time, thought it would be interesting to reprise the Recording
Britain project, taking photographs of the same views. The Trustees
were enthusiastic about this idea and asked the Director to investigate.
DIRECTOR’S REPORT
Dinner
The dinner following the meeting would be held at Brooks’s and the
guests would be Carole Souter, Chief Executive, Heritage Lottery Fund
and Alison Richmond, Director of the Institute of Conservation.
Dates for Trustees’
Meetings
The Chairman asked that any Trustees who had a problem with these
dates to let the Director know as soon as possible. The suggested dates
were:
30 January
30 April
17 July
5 November
Design Museum
Trustees agreed to that this project was too large to be considered by the
Pilgrim Trust. Some Trustees commented that the building, the former
Commonwealth Institute, was of great significance but also expressed
reservations about the proposals and that some of the most important
features of the building would not be visible under the new scheme.
No. 1 Royal Crescent
Trustees agreed that they would be happy to receive an application, but
noted that the size of the project was large and wondered if the applicant
could be steered into making an application for a particular aspect of the
project. Trustees suggested that the applicant consult the Director
before applying.
