CHSP Research Innovation Grant
REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
Purpose: Encourage innovative, high impact and sustainable research programming consistent
with college priorities. You are invited to identify essential seed funding in the concept paper for
the Dean’s consideration, including sustainability through subsequent extramural grant funding.
Review: This is a competitive application process with faculty peer review and the Dean’s
approval.
Total funding available this year: $20,000.
Budget: $10,000. This is seed funding for innovative (high-risk) research costs. PI salary
disallowed. GA stipend allowed if school/department will provide tuition waiver. Professional
travel should be no more than 10% of the budget.
Duration of funding: One year (May 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017). No extensions. All expenses
must be posted by June 30, 2017.
P.I. Eligibility: Full-time CHSP Group I, pretenure or posttenure. Not eligible if you have
received CHSP funding using this mechanism within the past 2 years.
Limit: No limit to number of proposals.
Due date: January 25, 2016.
Deliverable: Submission of an intra- or extramural grant proposal. A draft of the grant proposal
is due in the dean’s office no later than September 30, which is three months after the end of
the funding period.
Note: Be sure to discuss your plan in advance with your school director or department chair.
Application: A proposal approximately 5 pages in length (and tentative budget plus
sustainability plan); see format below.

o Includes Sections I-V (below), i.e., the narrative, budget, budget justification,
figures and tables.
o Page limit does not include references and appendices (e.g., letters of support).
